Summary: Inspired by the ultimate traveler, "Ulysses" and the quote: "Tell me, O muse, of that ingenious hero who traveled far and wide..." Remus and Tonks channel Ulysses and Penelope; thankfully, Tonks doesn't have to wait twenty years.
"Tell me, O muse, of that ingenious hero who traveled far and wide after he had sacked the famous town of Troy..." Her voice held accusation as she leaned against the door frame of her flat, arms crossed.
He tried to smile, but his eyes held no joy. "Hello Tonks."
"Hello, Ulysses." She replied looking at him questioning, "Still traveling?"
He looked away, guilty. "I..." But he couldn't find the words anymore; the lies wouldn't come as easy.
"Yes."
She sighed heavy, he was looking for a night or two of safe lodging at her home. He didn't have to say the words; the worn bags, the dusty shoes and his hollow eyes asked everything and like Penelope, she would play the faithful wife.
Suddenly, his fingertips brushed her cheek. "Sing, O goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Achaeans..."
Did he know her anger? Did he care? Pushing away her thoughts and his hand, she bent to pick up his bags. "How long?"
"A night... or two."
Silence.
"Come in." She opened the door, and turned to go inside.
In the night, she cries out for her lupine lover.
Remus pulls her to his chest and kisses her fevered forehead, whispering in her ear. "Sleepest thou sorrowing Penelope. The gods whose life is ease no longer suffer thee to pine and weep; he returns unharmed."
At least for now...
