Be careful. He says this every time. Every time she walks out of his apartment. Every time he hangs up the phone. Every time she gets out of the car.

Be careful. Because she is usually going to do something dangerous. Something he asked her to do. At first she did what he asked in exchange or information. Then she did them for him simply because he asked her. Now she does because she is warrior at heart. A protector of the downtrodden. A good person. She took a bullet in the stomach because she thought a child might get hurt.

Be careful. She knows what he means. She can hear it in his tone. The way his voice gets softer and tender. She can see it in his eyes. All his feelings and emotions pouring out of his deep green eyes.

Be careful. She heard him say to Asha. She heard his voice get that same soft and tender tone as he spoke on the phone. She couldn't help but feel jealous and bitter toward Asha. She knows how the beautiful blonde feels about him. She helps her out when she needs it because he asks.

Be careful not to touch him. While she knows it's killing them both inside that they can't be intimate, can't kiss. Can't even hold hands. She knows that he will die if they do touch. She knows he would be better off without her. That he could grow old and be happy if she just split. But she can't do it. She can't seem to go. She needs to see him, to hear his voice. She would rather suffer not touching him than to be without him.

Be careful. Because he can't say what he really wants to say. So many obstacles in the way. First, he was in that blasted wheelchair feeling like he wasn't good enough. Now because of the damned virus preventing them from touching. He said it once because he thought he was walking away for good. But he couldn't say away. Not from her. He'd rather be with her any way he can than to be without her.

Be careful. When what he wants to say is "I love you."
