Atem's Story

Part 1: Chapter 0

Chapt. 0-Notes

Story includes all main characters from series.

I consider main characters to be Yami, Yugi, Tea, Joey, Serenity, Tristan,

Seto, Mokuba, Ryou, Bakura, Malik, and Marik.

Name changes-

Yami is Atem. Yugi is Heba. Tea is Mana. Bakura is Akefia. Ishizu is Isis.

Malik and Marik are Kalim and Karim. Joey is Jono. Seto is Seth. Ryou is Dakarai.

Shimon is Solomon. I didn't change any other names. I'm calling Atem's father Pharoah because his name is too long.

Millennium item wielders- Atem- millennium puzzle, Shimon- millennium key, Akhenaden- millennium eye, Mahad- millennium ring, Isis- millennium necklace, Seth- millennium rod,

Karim- millennium scales.

They call years summers. Months are moons. Slavery is illegal. Servants may be treated as slaves. There are black market slaves. I decided to call Atem's father Pharoah because his name is so long.

Chapter 2: Chapter 1

Atem's Story

Chapt. 1-How it began

Today, the queen gives birth to a boy. The boy has eyes the color of rubies.

The pharaoh and queen are very happy. They name their son Atem.

In the village next to the palace, that same day, another boy is born.

The boy has eyes the color of amethysts. His parents are also very happy.

They name their son Heba.

The night before Atem's 10th birthday, the queen, the wielder of the millennium necklace, has a vision. She sees a sandstorm hitting the village next to the palace.

It kills everyone in the village. The queen sees the sun on the horizon. She assumes the vision happens at sunset. The queen wakes the pharaoh and tells him about her vision.

Pharaoh says, "Go back to sleep."

Queen says, "You know I can't. I'm going to warn the village."

Pharaoh says, "All right. Take 2 guards."

Queen says, "I will be back before you get up."

The queen gets up and gets dressed.

She tells the guards guarding their room to come with her to the village.

Once in the village, the queen and guards start waking the villagers.

They warn the villagers about the sandstorm. They tell them to go to the palace.

The queen sees the first rays of the sun. She realizes she didn't see sunset.

She saw sunrise. Its too late. The sandstorm hits.

The queen uses all of her power to try to shield the villagers.

Parents shield their children. The sandstorm is too powerful.

It takes out the queen's shield and the village.

The only survivors are the children.

The millennium necklace disappears from around the queen's neck.

It reappears around the neck of a servant named Isis.

Isis has a vision of what happened. Isis runs to the Pharaoh's room.

The pharaoh is awake and waiting for the queen to return.

The pharaoh sees the millennium necklace around Isis's neck.

Pharaoh asks, "Was my queen wrong about the time of the sandstorm?"

Isis says, "Yes, Pharaoh. It hit at sunrise."

Pharaoh asks, "Did anyone in the village survive?"

Isis says, "Only the children."

Pharaoh says, "Have guards bring the children to my throne room at midday.

They have until then to grieve."

Isis says, "Yes, Pharaoh."

Pharaoh says, "You are now the millennium necklace's wielder.

You have the same duties and privileges of the former wielder before she became the queen.

One of my queen's former servants will explain those duties and privileges to you."

Isis says, "Thank you, Pharaoh."

Pharaoh says, "You are to be in the throne room at midday."

Isis says, "Yes, Pharaoh."
Pharaoh summons one of his queen's former servants. Isis leaves with the servant.

Pharaoh goes to Atem's room. Atem is awake.

Pharaoh says, "Son, your mother sacrificed herself to save our people. She was only able to save the is time you learn the responsibilities of being Pharaoh. From now on, you will sit beside me in the throne room."

Atem says, "Yes, father. I am sorry for the loss of mother. How long do I have?"

Pharaoh says, "I am giving everyone until midday to grieve."

Atem says, "That is nice of you, father."

Pharaoh says, "I too lost someone I loved."

Its midday. Pharaoh and Atem head to the throne room. They sit in the throne chairs.

The priests join them. The guards bring in the 1st child. The child is crying.

Atem notices the child's hair looks a lot like his.

One of the guards says, "He hasn't stopped crying long enough to learn his name."

Shimon, the millennium key wielder and pharaoh's adviser, says, "Heba!"

Heba, upon hearing his name, opens his eyes. Atem sees his eyes are the color of amethysts.

He sees Shimon and says, "Grandfather, mother and father are gone!"

Pharaoh asks, "Grandfather?"

Shimon says, "Heba is my son's son. May I take him to my chambers?"

Pharaoh says, Of course. I ask that you have him serve my son."

Shimon says, "Yes, Pharaoh." Shimon leaves with Heba.

Atem asks, "Father, why do you wish for Heba to serve me?"

Pharaoh says, "I will explain after we have taken care of all the children.

Bring in the next child."

The guards next bring in 2 children.

One of the guards says, "They are Jono and Serenity, brother and sister.

The girl has lost her sight."

Pharaoh says, "The girl will be sacrificed to the gods."

Jono says, "I will not let you take my sister from me!"

Atem asks, "Father, why must the girl be sacrificed to the gods?"

Pharaoh says, "Its the law. Those who can not take care of themselves are sacrificed."

Isis says, "Pharaoh, the millennium necklace has shown me she will be its next wielder. Without the distraction of sight, her visions will be more clear than any previous wielder's."

Pharaoh says, "As you wish, Isis. She will be your responsibility."

Atem asks, "Jono, would you like to be one of my guards?"

Pharaoh asks, "Why do you want him?"

Atem says, "He stood up to you for his sister. He must have a lot of courage and loyalty."

Jono asks, "Will I be allowed to visit my sister?"

Atem says, "Of course, as long as you are not on duty and ask Isis's permission."

Jono says, "Then I would be glad to be one of your guards."

Pharaoh says, "Bring in the next child."

The guard brings in a girl with brown hair and blue eyes.

The guard says, "Her name is Mana."

Mana says, "Pharoah, I wish to be a healer."

Pharoah asks, "Mahad, would you like an apprentice?"

Mahad says, "There can never be too many healers."

Pharoah says, "You can go with Mahad."

Mahad says, "Come with me. I will show you the healing chambers and the guards' quarters."

Serenity, Jono, and Mana are escorted out by Mahad and Isis.

Pharoah says, "Bring in the next child."

The guards bring in a boy that has blond spiky hair and eyes like amethysts.

Priest Karim notices the boy looks like him.

One of the guards says, "His name is Kalim."

Pharaoh says, "Karim, this boy will be your servant."

Priest Karim says, "Yes, Pharoah."

Pharoah says, "Bring in the next child."

The guards bring in an albino boy with brown eyes.

The guard says, "His name is Dakarai."

Pharoah says, "He has been cursed by the gods."

Akhenaden says, "I want him for my servant."

Pharoah says, "You may have him."

Pharaoh says, "Bring in the next child."

The guards bring in a smaller boy with long spiky black hair.

A guard says, "His name is Mokuba."

Shadi, a priest-in training, says, "Pharaoh, I want him to be my responsibility."

Pharaoh says, "As you wish. Guard, give Mokuba to Shadi."

The guard says, "Yes, pharaoh."

Pharoah says, "Son, the gods told me wielding shadow magic puts too much strain on souls. Future wielders' souls would be divided into two vessels to lessen the strain. I would be able to tell who had half souls by their identical appearances. Heba must have the other half of your soul. From now on, you two are not to be separated. The same for Karim and Kalim."

Chapter 3: Chapter 2

Atem's Story

Chapt. 2-Getting to Know each other

Its been two summers since the storm.

While Atem studies, Heba looks after Mokuba.

Jono shares his quarters with 1 of the guard's sons, Tristan.

They have become friends. He visits his sister as often as he can.

Within a moon, the village was rebuilt. However, hardly anyone lives there.

Now most of the buildings are used to buy and sell.

Every market has a 'black' area, where goods that aren't supposed to be sold are.

The priests take turns searching for 'black' market areas.

When its Shimon's turn, Heba helps him. In a market, children are usually ignored.

Heba finds a building that appears to not be in use. Its in poor shape.

Heba crawls through a small hole into the building.

He sees a boy a couple summers older than him. The boy has brown hair.

His eyes are closed. He's wearing chains and a ripped and dirty tunic.

Heba touches the boy. The boy's eyes snap open. Heba sees they're blue.

Heba says, "My name is Heba. What is yours?"

The boy says, "Seth. Leave before you are caught and put in chains."

Heba says, "You will be set free and will see me again."

Heba leaves. Seth closes his eyes again. Shortly after, he hears someone enter again.

Seth keeps his eyes closed. Until he feels his chains falling off. Shimon used the Millenium Key to unlock them.

Seth opens his eyes and finds himself looking at an old man.

Seth asks, "Are you my newest owner?"

Shimon says, "No. I am Heba's grandfather and one of Pharaoh's Priests. I am setting you free. You will be taken to the Pharaoh. He will decide your future."

Seth follows Shimon to the palace. He is glad Shimon is old. Its been a few days since he last walked.

Shimon is watching Seth and taking note of what he needs. Shimon takes Seth to Mahad and Isis. They clean, treat any injuries, and feed him. Mahad gives him a new tunic that matches his eyes. Then Shimon takes Seth to see the Pharaoh. Seth is surprised when he sees Heba standing behind a young man who looks very similar to him.

A box, next to Pharaoh's throne, starts glowing. Pharaoh opens it and pulls out the Millennium Rod.

Pharaoh says, "Seth, it appears you are destined to be the wielder of the Millennium Rod.

Is there a priest willing to train him?"

Akhenaden says, "I am willing."

Seth leaves with Akhenaden.

Heba says, "Atem, I want you to reassign Jono to guard Seth."

Atem does as Heba suggests. Less than a moon later, Jono visits Atem.

Jono says, "Atem, you need to tell your father Akhenaden is overworking Seth. He never gives him time to eat and rarely gives him time to sleep. If I did not bring him meals while he studies, he would starve."

Heba asks, "Have you seen Dakarai?"

Jono says, "I am sorry. I have not."

Atem immediately goes to his father and reports what Jono told him. Pharoah summons Akhenaden and demands that he give Seth times to eat and rest.

Akhenaden, having no choice, starts giving Seth an hour break each day.

Seth is not surprised when, during his first break, he runs into Heba.

Heba asks, "Have you seen an albino boy in Akhenaden's chambers?"

Seth says, "I have."

Heba says, "Tomorrow, I will have Atem distract Akhenaden while you free him and take him to an oasis near the palace. He will continue alone from there."

Seth says, "I need to get back before Akhenaden becomes suspicious."

Heba says, "First, there is someone you need to talk to."

Heba pulls back a curtain to a room, then asks, "Mokuba, are you here?"

Mokuba says, "Heba! Why are you here? Who is this?"

Heba says, "Mokuba, this is Seth, your older brother."

Seth asks, "Do you remember me?"

Mokuba says, "No. Sorry."

Seth says, "That is all right. You were only 3 summers when the bandits attacked. I hid you, then ran, so they would chase me. We can get to know each other again."

Heba says, "That may have to wait a couple days. You both need to return to your studies."

Seth says, "I will visit as often as I can."

The next day, Heba's plan works without any problems. Seth leaves Dakarai at the oasis with some supplies before returning to the palace. Soon, some thieves enter the oasis. They see Dakarai and notice how similar he looks to their leader. They decide to take Dakarai to their leader. They quickly grab him, bind his hands behind his back, and put him on a camel.

Shortly after the sun sets, they arrive at a cave near another oasis. They help the boy down from the camel, then take him to their leader. The boy moves into a kneeling position and won't look up. Their leader, upon seeing the boy, thanks the men, then tells them to leave. He unties the boy and looks him over. Akefia sees several scars on the boy's feet.

Akefia puts his hand on the boy's chin and lifts it so he can see the boy's eyes.

Akefia asks, "What is your name?"

The boy says, "Dakarai, Master."

Akefia asks, "Why do you look like me?"

Dakarai says, "It means we each have half a soul. We need each other to wield the shadows."

Akefia says, "Don't call me master. My name is Akefia. From now on, you will stay with me."

Dakarai says, "Yes, Master Akefia."

Akefia asks, "What do you know how to do?"

Dakarai crawls over to Akefia and starts to lift his tunic.

Akefia asks, "What are you doing?"

Dakarai says, "This is what I was taught by my former master."

Akefia asks, "Did your former master rape you?"

Dakarai says, "He was too old, but he forced me to pleasure the guards."

Akefia says, "You no longer will be forced to pleasure anyone. Once your feet heal, I will teach you how to survive. You will explain to me what wielding the shadows means."

A moon passes. Akefia learns Dakarai likes having his hair petted. Once his feet heal, Dakarai starts organizing the stolen goods in the cave. They soon become friendly.

Part 4-Chapt. 3

Chapt. 3-The Beginning of the End

Another 2 summers have passed. Atem and Heba have fallen in love. Isis agrees to be a surrogate for them. Jono and Seth have also fallen in love, although they still argue a lot of the time. Mana has agreed to be their surrogate. Karim and Kalim have also fallen in love. They ask a servant to be their surrogate. (Remember-Ancient Egypt, not modern day, people didn't tend to live long.) Dakarai has fallen in love with Akefia, but Akefia cares more about his revenge plans than them having a child. He is away, stealing, when the priests find his hideout. Dakarai is killed in a shadow duel with Akhenaden. Akefia arrives home to find Dakarai dead. Now he wants revenge against the priests and Pharaoh even more.

Atem's father suddenly dies in a shadow duel against Akhenaden. Akefia is pissed that he wasn't able to get revenge on the Pharaoh who he blames for killing his family and his village, not knowing Akhenaden is actually the one responsible. The Pharaoh didn't know what Akhenaden did until afterwards, when the gods told him. Akefia decides to get his revenge on the Pharaoh's son instead. He starts by returning to Kuna El to power up his Ka. On the day of the Pharaoh's funeral, during the procession to the pyramid, he manages to steal the Pharaoh's sarcophagus. Using his Ka's abilities, he's able to get into the throne room with the sarcophagus. He tells Atem about his village being sacrificed to create the millenium items. Then, using his Ka, he disappears.

Atem demands to know if the story Akefia told was true. No one knows its true, except Akhenaden, who doesn't confirm it. He never told the other priests and the guards with him that day he killed.

Atem summons Ra and asks him if Akefia's story is true. Ra tells him it is. He also tells Atem Akhenaden is the one responsible. Ra also tells Atem Akhenaden is the Pharaoh's brother and killed the Pharaoh and planned on killing Atem so his son, Seth, could take the throne. Atem and Seth are surprised to learn they are cousins. Akhenaden runs before the guards can stop him. Atem sends Seth and Jono after him. Akhenaden heads for the dungeon, where he has Kisara imprisoned. He tries to use the Millenium Eye to force Kisara's Ka, Blue Eyes White Dragon, to attack Jono. Seth tries to use the Millenium Rod to stop the attack. Jono summons his Ka, Red Eyes Black dragon, and blocks the attack. The attack rebounds onto Kisara, killing her. Her ka goes to Seth. Seth uses Kisara's ka to kill Akhenaden.

Akefia returns several times, each time killing a millenium item wielder and taking their item. He tries to attack Atem, but Heba jumps in the way of the attack and is killed. Atem and the remaining millenium item wielders head to Kuna El to stop Akefia.

Part 5-Chapt. 4

Chapt. 4-The End

When Atem and the remaining wielders arrive in Kulna El, they discover a temple. Inside that temple, they discover a sarcophagus. All of the millenium items are placed in this sarcophagus. Akefia is standing next to it, bleeding from a self-inflicted wound. The millenium items have his blood on them. Atem summons Ra again. Ra tells Atem the most powerful Ka known to exist was created by the sacrifice of the village and the creation of the millenium items. If the Ka escapes the sarcophagus, Egypt is doomed. Atem could've summoned a more powerful Ka if he had Heba with him, but since Heba is gone to the afterlife, all he can do is reseal the sarcophagus, until Heba is reincarnated. Ra tells Atem resealing the sarcophagus will require sacrificing to him, Osiris, and Obelisk. He will have to sacrifice his body to Obelisk, his mind to Ra, and finally his soul to Osiris. His soul would be trapped inside the Millenium Puzzle until Heba is reincarnated. He would still not have a body or his memories. Akefia would have to make the same sacrifice. His soul would be trapped inside the Millenium Ring until Dakarai was reincarnated. Then Atem and Akefia would have to duel for the fate of the world again. Akefia, upon hearing Dakarai will be reincarnated, agrees to sacrifice himself in order to be reunited with Dakarai. Atem summons Obelisk and Osiris. Akefia and Atem take the Millenium Ring and Millenium Puzzle out of the sarcophagus. The 3 gods attack and kill them.

Part 6-Chapt. 5

Chapt. 5-What happened to those who remained

Seth and Jono found Atem's and Akefia's bodies. Ra told them what happened. He told them they had to separate and lock away the millenium items and erase any record of the Pharaoh's name. That was when they realized they couldn't remember their friend's name.

Seth became Pharaoh. He and Jono raised the Pharaoh's and Heba's children as their own. They separated and sealed away all the millenium items. Seth assigns Karim, Kalim, and their family to guard the Millenium items. With no more Shadow duels, the rest of Seth's reign was peaceful. He and Jono died of old age. The throne passed to the former Pharaoh's son.

THE END
