This is Day 2 of the 100 Day Challenge :)
"Is there a reason you're standing there looking like you just won the lottery?" Darry asked, raising an eyebrow. His two little brothers stood before him with giant grins on their faces.
"Weeeeeell," began Sodapop, "we figured that since today is a special day, we'd honor it in a special way. Right, Pony?" He looked to the youngest Curtis for confirmation and was given an eager nod. Soda turned back to Darry, a sparkle in his eyes. "We request that you go into your room and put on the hat that's on your bed. Then come back out here."
Darry gave them a strange look, but did as he was told. He got up and walked to his room apprehensively. There was a top hat on his bed with a note that read Courtesy of yer old pal, Two-Bit. He smiled a bit and stuck the hat on his head before walking back out.
Soda nodded. "Good, good. Now go into our room. There's a suit in the closet. Put it on and come back out here."
The oldest brother heaved a sigh and walked back to Pony and Soda's room. There was indeed a suit in the closet, along with nice dress shoes and a bunch of the fancy fixins. It took a few minutes to get it on; it'd been a very long time since Darry had put on such a nice suit. "Come on, Dar!" hollered Soda from the living room. Darry grumbled curses as he got the last shoe on.
"I'm comin', I'm-" Darry walked out, only to find the whole gang standing there with big smiles. Even Dally's smirk had less bite to it. "What the hell, guys?" he asked, bewildered.
Ponyboy piped up first. "We all chipped in and got a reservation at a fancy restaurant for ya. They're even havin' a live comedy show tonight. Happy birthday, Darry!"
Darry's smile was unmatched. "I dunno what to say, you guys..."
"Don't say anythin' then!" Two-Bit said, looking at the clock. "Get goin' or yer gonna be late!" The guys grabbed Darry and pushed him out the door towards his truck. Soda handed him directions to the restaurant and sent him on his way. As he drove away from the house, he thought, I sure am lucky to have them.
