Watching From Afar

~Then~

Lizzie would always remember that night she first saw the Doctor. The night he grabbed her hand and whispered "Run" in her ear, pushing her dark raven hair out of her face. Everything that day was a blur, all of it except the Doctor. She could remember everything about him, from his long dark leather jacket, to his short blondish hair.

She remembered the bright smile he wore and the warm hands he had. She remembered all the mannequins, they were everywhere. And just like many other people that day, she was in the way of their plan.

Though she was lucky enough to survive and lucky enough to see the Doctor, she wasn't sure of what had happened. Her little seven year old mind couldn't process everything. Lizzie was walking aimlessly around in many different stores, looking at the clothes on mannequins. She knew it was getting late, but she also knew she didn't want to go 'home'. Her foster parents didn't care where she was as long as she comes back for the 'check up' as they called it. They would forget about her in a day if she never came back. All they wanted was their check for keeping the waste of space they thought she was.

Whenever Lizzie tries to recall that fateful day, all she can see are blurred images of what had happened. She remembered looking at an outfit as the mannequins around her came to life. By then, people were screaming and running around the store. One with a pink flowered dress on cornered her as she curled up in a small ball. Lizzie heard someone come in front of her and she looked up and saw the Doctor clear as day.

It seemed like everything else faded away when he came. The man who saved her stood over Lizzie, looking down at her. She clearly remembers him coming over to her saying, "I'm not going to hurt you."

"What about the monster?" The young Lizzie asked.

"Oh, I told him to sod off!" He smiled and Lizzie nodded. He held out his hand to Lizzie and she took it. He leaned down to her height. "I'm the Doctor!" He said cheerfully. By then, most of the screaming had died down, the Doctor keeping his attention on little Lizzie.

"Lizzie," Was all the little girl said looking at the strange man. The Doctor smiled as he and Lizzie got up. Her whole body was shaking after everything she just saw. They walked down the bright hallway getting closer to the exit. He took her to the back door and took out his sonic screwdriver.

He pointed it at the door as sparks flew from it. The tiny girl was flabbergasted as he put it back in his long coat. He swifly opened the heavy metal door for her.

Lizzie stepped through is hastily, her long black hair flying everywhere. Her plump, pink, lips parted as if she was going to say something. The Doctor leaned down, his leather jacket brushing the ground. "Run." He whispered in her ear. With that one word he stood up and closed the door to the store going back in, hearing him mumble, "Another ape saved." Of course then she didn't know if it was sarcastic or not. Lizzie took one step back and then ran away from the store, never wanting to forget what had happened, her little seven year old self, vowing to find the Doctor once again.
