"And so today, my world it smiles,
Your hand in mine, we walk the miles" (Zeppelin)
Sirius was annoying. Always. Well, perhaps not always, but 90 of the time Sirius was annoying. And right now wasn't the fortunate 10.
"Jamey?" Sirius asked. "Jamey!" he added when James groaned.
"Yes, Sirius, love, what is it?" the Gryffindor chaser asked.
"Would you defend my honor?" Sirius asked.
James shook his head, a smile on the corners of his lips. "Sirius, you don't have honor. We've gone over this before. Neither one of us has any honor left to defend, you less than me even."
Sirius put his hands on his hips. "Really, James Potter?" But he giggled.
"Sirius, I have homework." James said. "And normally I would forget about it and make love to you and do it right before class, but I'm slipping in Potions, love."
"One more question." Sirius said.
"Okay. One." James smiled. "What is it, kid?"
Sirius rolled his eyes at the word 'kid'. He was a month older than James, not to mention taller. "Did you know I love you?"
James smiled, then laughed. "Come here." Sirius sat down beside him. "I love you, too. More than anything. More than Potions." Sirius smiled and bit his bottom lip. "And I was going to wait until Valentine's Day . . . but . . ."
Sirius looked confused. "I don't understand."
James looked around for a moment, at all the fifth years studying for O.W.L.s, all the first years trying to Transfigure buttons, Lily and Remus kissing in the second row of books. Madam Pince talking with Professor McGonagall. James took a deep breath and sowly dropped to one knee.
"Sirius Orion Black, will you marry me?"
Remus and Lily ran into the main room as the library went dead silent. James tried to smile, but Sirius hadn't answered him yet.
Lily opened her mouth. "Say yes, you--" Remus clamped his hand over it.
Sirius smiled, tears in his eyes. "Yes." He threw his arms around his boyfriend, fiance now. "Yes, James. Of course I'll marry you."
A fourth year Ravenclaw clapped, then a first year, then slowly everyone else joined in. "You can get up now." Sirius whispered to his boyfriend.
"THIS IS A LIBRARY!" Madame Pince shrieked, but stopped when McGonagall joined in on the applause.
James laughed and kissed his fiance again, before glancing at his Potions book. "Ah, can't do this now, can I?" He laughed, picked up his bag, and left the library, his hand in Sirius'.
