"Why are you here if you're not even going to listen to me?"

"Hn."

Sakura put a hand on her hip and glared, a stance she undoubtedly picked up from the young Uchiha. "I hate when you do that."

Sasuke did not remove his gaze from the window. His eyes followed a tiny finch as it fluttered about the trees. "Do what?"

Emerald eyes narrowed and the raven wished to fly. To soar high above these stupid earthly problems. To break free of this pointless drama.

"You know what I mean."

Sasuke sighed and waited for his girlfriend of two years to unleash the fury that he had felt building up over the past several weeks.

"I ask you out and you say yes, and then the whole time you just sit there hardly ever saying a word. It's not fair. It feels like half the time you don't even care about me. About us. After everything we've been through..." Her voice dropped. "After everything I did for you..."

Her voice trailed off and Sasuke could tell that she was thinking about the day he'd run away from home, broken and bleeding after his father had had a bit too much to drink with the intention of curling up some place to just die.

It was Sakura who found him when he'd passed out in front of the train station. Pure luck, and a little bit of love, were the only things that saved him that night. She had taken him to her house and held him through the night after tending to his wounds. He was grateful, he supposed. But still.

She had healed his broken wings, but the damage was done. He was still grounded and crippled. No amount of love could fix that.

Sasuke frowned slightly as her eyes glistened. "I'm here, aren't I?" he asked, a bit more roughly than he had initially intended.

Her sharp, beautiful, clear eyes stared deeply into his dark, unfocused ones. Her expression was one of eternal sadness and the sight broke him inside, just a little bit.

"No Sasuke, you aren't here." She sighed and stood. "I don't know where you are, but it's obvious that you'll never be here with me." She paused, perhaps regaining her composure, perhaps waiting for him to deny it, to say something, to DO something.

Silence filled the small room of their two bedroom apartment.

Sakura pushed her hair out of her eyes. Her cheeks were stained red with unshed tears, but did not glisten. He felt a bit of pride at the thought. His Sakura had gotten to be so strong.

"I'm sorry. I just can't do this anymore."

Sasuke stared at the little finch as if somewhere in its movements was the secret of life. His chest constricted and he realized that he was holding his breath. He released it slowly. "Okay."

Sakura stared at him, nodding slightly, lingering for just a moment too long. And then she turned and left. "I'll get my stuff later."

"Good bye," Sasuke whispered to the closing door.

The silence fell thickly and heavily over the room, suffocating him.

His attempts to fly always failed.
