The group is on the edge of their seats as they wait for Reeva to tell them the next mission. Andy, still depressed from Rebecca's death, is anxious to get it over with. He personally made it his mission to make the Mutant Homeland happen to give her justice. Lorna, on the other hand, is having more and more doubts as time passes by. She wanted the goal to happen but she's not sure about Reeva's way anymore.
Finally, Reeva arrived with the Frost Sisters. "Sorry to keep you waiting. I got caught up with some other business. I know you're all curious about the next target. For some time, I searched for it and thanks to our successful operation with Regimen, I finally found it. It's a secret military base in Nevada", she said. It raised a lot of questions especially in Lorna's mind.
"What's in that military base?" she asked. Reeva knows her growing doubts but she chose to stay quiet about it because she wants to know how things would play out with Lorna.
"It is a special prison for special mutants, powerful ones. The base was kept hidden and most of the mutants imprisoned in there were kept there for years, locked up and tortured. I once heard that some of them were brought to other facilities so they can be experimented", Reeva answered.
"When are we going to take that place down?" Andy asked angrily.
"Hold on, Andy. We can't just raid places with so little of information", Lorna said to him. He turned to her.
"We can't wait any longer. They have been locked up there for years. This is their chance to finally be free", he said which shocked Lorna and impressed Reeva.
"Don't worry, Andrew. We will leave by tomorrow morning. Sage is still working with their security system and after that we will set them free", Reeva answered.
Reeva is inside her office. She's being surrounded by files of their future missions. She is tired and exhausted but she knows she can't stop. This is for the future of all mutants in the world. Like what she always says, the dream is much bigger than all of them. Her phone suddenly rings. "Yes. Everything is ready for tomorrow. I am aware of that. Don't ever doubt about the team. In case, you forgot they got things done and because of them we no longer have to worry about the mutant restraint collars. You will hear from me as soon as the job is done", she answered then hung up.
Esme knocked on the door. Reeva composed herself. "Come in", she said. Esme came in her office and closed the door. "Yes?" Reeva asked her. She noticed how confused she is.
"Sorry to disturb you but I was just wondering…actually, we are all wondering, especially me and my sisters, about the job. Who are we rescuing in that base?" Esme asked.
Reeva sighed and put her phone down. She knows that question will come up. "To be honest, a few friends of mine are in there. But they are not the only people we are rescuing in that base. There a lot of them, almost hundreds. Once we rescued all of them, we are going to tear that place apart and all of their technologies that make them suffered", she answered. Her answer made Esme calm down. She always believes in her and her mission. Reeva got up and walked towards her. "Are you with me?" she asked while holding her hands. Esme nodded. "Of course. Always", she answered.
The day of the mission came. The team is ready waiting for Reeva in the basement. Reeva arrived dressed in all black. Then, all of them got inside the SUV's and then drove off to the airport where their private plane is waiting for them. Once they landed, they got into the rented cars and drove to the target.
After a few hours, the team arrived. Lorna and the sisters took care of the guards. Sage was successful in disabling their security system which made their attack easier.
The base is made of hard stone and concrete and the metal used is adamantium which is impossible for Lorna or Andy to destroy. "Wow", the sisters muttered. They all looked at the building. "How are we getting in there?" Lorna asked.
Reeva smiled and then turned to Andy. He looked at her and saw her staring at her. "I can't take that down", he said. Reeva put her hand on his shoulder. "You don't have to take the whole building down. All we need from you is a little crack. Surely, you can do that for me?" she said and Andy nodded.
Andy stepped forward and concentrated. He then used his powers as hard as he can and finally he managed to crack a few parts of the building. He stopped and catches his breath. "Well done, Andrew. Well done", Reeva said. Still, none of them can fit in the cracks on the building. "Let's get our people", Reeva said as she stepped forward.
Reeva inhaled in deep and then used her powers towards the building. Everyone became confused. They are not sure what she's doing. They know her powers can scramble anyone's brain and stop any mutants from using their powers but to tear down a building? It surely puts question marks in their minds. Then, Reeva's hands started emitting black rays of light as she raised them to contain the sonic waves coming from her mouth. She focused the waves onto the building. The sonic waves sunk into the cracks Andy made until all was absorbed. Reeva stopped and paused to gather her strength. She moved her hands with black lights encircling it then ripped the building apart. The impact caused the team to land on their backs except Reeva.
Once the smoke of dusts has cleared, they all saw the building that once stood there. It is no longer a building. The front wall, as well as the roof, has been completely removed and turned into pieces of debris surrounding the ruins. They got a good look at what's inside the base which is electronically locked rooms, a lot of rooms.
Reeva walked towards the base. The others reluctantly tried to follow her. Reeva reached the base first and grabbed the remote control on top of the table. One by one she opened the doors which turned out to be prison cells. The mutants slowly came out of their cells. Some of them looked at Reeva wondering who she is but most of them just ran away, thirsty for their freedom.
Andy and the others are fulfilled with the result of their operation. They freed the mutants who were locked for years in a hidden military base. All are happy except Lorna. Her doubts are too strong to appreciate what just happened.
One more cell has left unopened. It is larger than all of the other prison cells in the base and it has no window at all. Reeva entered number combinations onto its lock and few seconds later the door opened. Inside are five blocks of ice. Reeva became filled with horror and shock. The rest of the team looked at each other. "What are those?" Andy asked everyone but none answered. The Sisters used their powers.
"Oh my god", they all muttered. Lorna turned to them.
"What?" she asked.
"There are people in there…mutants. It's like hibernation system or something", Esme answered.
"You mean they froze people and kept them inside those blocks of ice?" Andy asked again. The Sisters nodded.
"What the hell is wrong with this place?" Lorna muttered.
Reeva inhaled deeply and then used her powers onto the blocks of ice until it cracked. Then she watched carefully as the cracks grew bigger and bigger. Finally, the blocks were broken freeing the people inside. Reeva used her powers once again and it woke them up. One by one, they stepped down of their chambers and looked at Reeva. "We don't have much time", she said and then she walked along with them.
Shock struck the team as they watched them coming out of the base. "Tell me you're thinking what I'm thinking", Phoebe told her sisters. "What do you mean?" Andy asked curiously. Esme turned to him. "Those people are not the Inner Circle. They are not the Hellfire Club either. They are the Brotherhood", she answered. Lorna's eyes are fixated on one person standing next to Reeva. She knows him but doesn't have the guts to admit it.
Helicopters started flying over the base. They can all hear the sirens of the police cars from afar. "Stay where you are or we will fire!" the police warned from the helicopter. The police cars arrived and surrounded them.
Reeva turned to the man next to him and smiled. "May I?" he asked politely and Reeva nodded. The man smiled wickedly and then raised his hands as the helicopters started spinning uncontrollably in the air. "What's happening?" the police started panicking. "Stop!" one of the police yelled from the car. The woman next to Reeva looked at them and everyone stood still and dropped their weapons. "How I missed this…" the man muttered and then slammed the helicopters altogether killing everyone in them. The rest of them attacked the police surrounding them until none of them were left breathing. "Feeling better?" Reeva asked all of them. They all turned to her. "Oh, I'm not even starting yet", the woman answered and they proceed to the team.
The Sisters are all stunned by the mysterious woman in front of them. For the first time ever, they can't read her mind. "Girls, there's time for introduction later but right now we need to go or more people will end up dead", Reeva said. They all quickly moved and then leave.
Inside the car, Sophie is driving nervously. Everyone is quiet. They are all thinking the same thing but none dares to speak it out loud except for Andy. "Lorna, is that really him?" he asked. Lorna is staring out the window. She just nodded. That's all she can do. She has nothing to say because she couldn't believe it herself.
Andy turned to the Esme and then looked at her sisters. They all shared the same look as their eyes turning blue from time to time as they communicate with each other through their minds. Esme looked at Andy. "You're guess is right, Andy", she said to him reading the question in his mind. Andy leaned back. "Wow…" he muttered.
Reeva is riding with the others. "Emma, please stop lurking inside of my brain", she said to the woman sitting in the front. Emma smiled. "Sorry, old habits…interesting though, care to tell us more about your previous missions?" Emma asked. Reeva rolled her eyes around. They all turned their attention to her.
"There is nothing much to tell other than what you already shared with everyone", she snapped. They all laughed. Emma has a habit of reading someone's mind and then sharing it with the others so Reeva was right. There's nothing left to share.
"How did you find her?" the man sitting next to Reeva asked. It killed all the laughter inside the car.
"If you mean that I looked for her and recruited her to the Inner Circle, the answer is no. We just happened to cross path with her", Reeva answered.
"How?" he asked again.
"Sophie and Phoebe were captured by Sentinel Services. Esme asked for my help to go rescue them. We found out that they were being locked up inside a research facility called Trask in Atlanta. She can't rescue them by herself and the previous members of the circle will never allow anyone to go with her so we found the Mutant Underground based in Atlanta who rescue mutants. Esme went undercover to infiltrate them, get their trust. Lorna was there. To be frank, she's one of the leaders", Reeva explained.
"What happened next?" Emma asked.
"Esme found out that the grandchildren of Andre and Andrea Von Strucker were also members of the Mutant Underground and that they were also captured and being held at Trask. She worked her way to get them to help her ambushed the facility then she got her sisters back", Reeva answered.
Emma read her mind to know the rest of the details. "They are really good with their powers", she muttered. Reeva sighed. She knows what she's doing again. "I thought I can spare her from the fight. How did she even get there?" the man asked. Reeva looked at him. "A mutant named Evangeline recruited her. She was locked up in a mental institution", she said. The man looked at her.
"What?" he asked.
"Calm down, that building has been torn apart and the people who locked her up were taken care of without her knowing, of course", she said. Emma smiled.
"She's telling the truth", she intervened.
"But really…do you think you can keep her away forever from the fight? It's in her blood. One way or another, she will come out and take a stand for all of us. It's her destiny…Eric. It's all our destiny to fight", Reeva said to him.
"I second to that", Emma replied.
