Peter did not think he was ready to do this. There was no way he was ready to lead an army. Susan was right. Mom sent them away to get them away from a war. There was no way he could lead an army. It wasn't safe. He couldn't let his siblings fight either. He was letting them down. Without Aslan he knew they could never beat that White Witch. And still he put his armor on. Peter knew he had made a promise to the people of Narnia. He had to fight this battle. He had no choice.
Walking outside the tent he saw Edmund marveling at his armor and sword. He looked like he was ready to fight. Peter didn't understand. How could Ed have no fear when he had seen what the witch could do? Peter walked over to him and just observed for awhile.
Edmund Pevensie looked at his older brother. There was an emotion that was on Peter's face that Edmund had never seen before. It scared him because it was fear. Edmund always looked up to Peter and thought that he was well, fearless. When he looked at his brother he just realized he needed a pep talk. Edmund smiled because he had been looking for something to do that would help fix his betrayal and something inside told him that this might be it.
"Peter," Edmund started out slowly, "I believe in you. I believe you can do this. This little taste of power hasn't affected you like it did when the witch said I could be King of Narnia. You're meant to do this. You can do this. I know that."
Peter smiled gratefully. "Edmund that means so much, I don't even think you know how much. Listen if Susan and Lu come back keep them with you and the archers until the battle is over. You're in charge. I trust you to get them out safe and get them home if I don't make it. If anything happens to you it better be to save them okay?"
Edmund hugged Peter knowing that Peter finally had forgiven him for all that had happened. No matter the outcome of the day he would be in peace.
"And Ed? How amazing is the armor and our swords?" With that Peter left with the part of the army he was command.
Laughing Edmund looked around for the girls one last time and then left with the archers. It was time to end the witch. She had no hold on his heart anymore.
