It was a dark and stormy night. The 12th of February 2000. Charles Schulz, now 77, had gotten into his bed. Charlie Brown had gotten into his bed too.
He was nearly 50 years old. As a character in 'Peanuts', he had been able to go back to the 'good ol' kiddie days' where he could play around, have fun, and just be a kid again.
But now that Schulz had colon cancer and couldn't draw, Charlie was sad. He wished he could just be young again, that he couldn't stop being a kid and having fun. But then, as an adult, he had to face facts. He just couldn't do it.
Charlie Brown gripped the bedsheets tighter, closed his eyes to stop the tears from escaping, and started to dream.
He was a boy again, having fun with his friends. He had just helped Violet make her next batch of hot mud sandwiches, and was now flying his kite. The Kite-Eating Tree had gotten the rest, but it didn't get Charlie Brown's kite now. He was happier than he ever was.
Then, when he had been tired out, he stopped over at Schroeder's house to have a glass of lemonade and listen to his buddy play Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 15. He smiled as he said goodbye and went off to Lucy's backyard. She was playing football.
Charlie Brown helped her play, and he kicked the football. It went for miles and miles. He shook hands with Lucy, thanking her for a great time, and went off to help Linus find his security blanket. Then he went to Rerun's room where they played with his new pet puppy.
After that had been done, he met his ol' pal Shermy. Shermy had moved away for many years, and was happy to see Good Ol' Charlie Brown smile again. Everything was just as it was.
Finally, him and all of his friends sat down at the cliff's edge to watch the sun going down. Peppermint Patty told him that she loved him, and they kissed. They had a fantastic time talking to each other and watching as night fell.
Then everybody left except him and Peppermint Patty, who told him that she would love him, 'forever and always'. Charlie Brown hugged her one last time and, with tears in his eyes, he went home to bed. He pulled over the covers and cried softly as the darkness engulfed him.
At 9:45 in the morning, a few hours before the final Peanuts strip appeared in newspapers all over the world, Charles Schulz and Charlie Brown died. At least he had finally been able to be happy after so many years of loneliness.
The End.
Review if this made you cry, as it made me cry when I wrote this!
