Gotta Love the Sod that Tempts Murphy

This is my first fic that I am publishing here, or anywhere else. This piece just popped into my head as I was watching Midnight, can be any Doctor really with any companion/assistant. Has not been Beta'd, something which I may end up regretting :P

Disclaimer: I do not own Doctor Who or any of the characters, they all belong to the BBC and none of those letters are in my name.

Sometimes you swear he does it on purpose. He says he doesn't want to run into trouble, that he just wants to travel through time and space and witness the events of the universe unfolding. The more you travel with him, the more you realise it's a load of bull. If nothing happens on the trip and the visit to Alpha Centauri or Orion goes well and you get to relax, he walks back into the TARDIS like a disappointed child that was promised that they were going to Disneyland and then got taken to the Dentist instead. So, as you're running for your life for what must be the billionth time, you scroll through your memories since landing on this planet where the sky is a soft lilac and the people have strange tentacles on their spine, all was fine and dandy, until he said those fatal words.

"Ah, isn't it wonderful, the sky is lilac, the people are wiggling their tentacles happily, what could possibly go wrong on a day like today?"

You lean against the warm rock of the holding cell after having exhausted your vastly growing vocabulary of curse words. You both have been captured, again. You are facing a trial for a crime that you did not commit, again. Over the buzz of the sonic screwdriver, you can hear him apologising to you, again. He's sorry that he missed the Great Fair by 50 years. He's also sorry that he forgot that, once he realised the timeline, the assassination of the entire Royal Family was going to happen that very day. He's always saying sorry, but now you start to wonder, does he really mean it?

You remember seeing his wide grin when you were running for your lives and you think, would he have been as happy if you had turned up a the correct time? You're not normally one for superstition but the more you go over your memories of travelling with the Doctor, the more you realise that the bastard is actually trying to tempt fate. Not that you believe in fate, its more that you believe in Sod's Law or Murphy's Law, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. That saying things like: 'What could possibly happen?' 'What does this button do?' or 'Don't worry, they're relatively friendly' or your favourite by far: 'It couldn't possibly get any worse.'

You find yourself wishing for a break, just this once, and so you pray to the god you don't quite believe in that he won't go and say the words that will make it one of the more harrowing trips in your adventures through time and space.

"Come on, don't worry, it can't get any worse than this." He says in his chipper, tempting fate tone of voice.

You can tell as he's holding the back of his head and throwing you an injured look, he's wondering why you smacked him so hard when he was only trying to cheer you up.

There you go, I hope you liked this little oneshot, please review otherwise I don't end up getting any better.
