Don't Close Your Eyes

"Blah" is talking

Blah is someone's thought.

Duo Maxwell returned to the apartment that he and Heero shared, battered and bruised. He had just escaped from the base prison.

"Man, the things I do for those guys," Duo moaned as he eased himself down on the couch.

I'm tired of this! I think Death has escaped one too many time.

He looked around the apartment for something that would take Death itself out of this world. He got up and went to the medicine cabinet to see what would help.

Pain killers. That would work, right?

He picked up the bottle and went back to the couch to sit down.

Man, if I don't kill myself, these wounds will. I'm tired of coming back to this shit hole all bloody and beaten. This is my only choice.

What's you're doing out in the night time
Won't you call me on the phone
Your mamma can't solve your problems
When's daddy ever get home.

Duo stuck the first pill in his mouth and rolled his tongue around it, savoring its sleek roundness.

Good. It'll go down fast and without water.

He swallowed it and went for another one. After a while he had swallowed almost two handfuls.

Maybe I should stop now and see what happens?

So you think you're a bit wild
In the middle of a suicide.

He started to grow sleepy. He lay down on the couch and closed his eyes.

Heero will be back soon. I'm sorry, man. I can't wait any longer.

Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
Don't sing your last lullaby.

I wish you were here. You'd probably hold me and tell me you loved me.

No one there to hold you
No one is your friend
You live life up and down now
Nightmares on your brain.

As he started to loose consciousness he felt strong warm arms encircle him. It was him. It was his arms.

Another lonely way of hanging 'round
Don't you take it falling down
No, no.

"Duo! Duo, can you hear me?" asked a voice.

Duo slowly opened his eyes and smiled up at Heero.

"Duo what have you done?" asked Heero with tears in his eyes.

"I've...I've waited so long...to do this. I'm tired...Heero. I'm tired of living this way. I...can't...keep living like this. Please...understand," said Duo as he started to close his eyes again.

"No Duo! We can change it! We don't have to live this way! I'll make it better! Just hold on...please," Heero's voice wavered.

Hold on
Hold on tight
I'll make
Everything all right.

"No, Heero. It's ok. I'm...ready. I'm...sorry. I've...I've gotta go...now. I'll be...waiting. I...love you...Heero."

"No Duo! Wake up! You can't go to sleep,"

"Ai shitearu...Heero." Duo smiled as he let go of life.

Wake up
Don't go to sleep
I pray the Lord your soul to keep.

"Ai shitearu Duo," Heero said as a tear rolled down his cheek.

He laid Duo back down on the couch and picked up the bottle of pain killers. He swallowed the last half of the bottle and lay down next to Duo. After a while, the pills started to take affect on him.

"I'm so tired Duo," said Heero as he closed his eyes.

Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
Don't sing your last lullaby.

"Guide me...to you...Duo."

Don't close your eyes
Don't close your eyes
Don't sing your last lullaby

DISCLAMER!! I DO NOT own Gundam Wing, or the song "Don't Close Your Eyes". That song belongs to Kix and is my favorite. That's why I used this song.
