Sorry… but I had to do this. I really needed to do this. It was frustrating not being able to find any story about this drama since… 2010, I think? Sigh, It's really sad.

I know some of you like the movie SO much better. I actually found the movie pretty great too, you know? But, since I watched the drama first, it kind of… got a special spot in my heart too. Besides, I really need Haruto in this little drabble.

Anyway, let's start, ok?

DISCLAIMER: I do NOT own 1 litre no namida drama

NOTE: This is ALTERNATE UNIVERSE, please be aware of that

Why now?

The moment he realized, it was too late.

He did it.

He actually… did it.

The moment doctor Mizuno looked at him in the eyes, shocked, yet relieved and purely proud, he couldn't stand it.

He got away from that look, those looks, and ran away as far as possible from his mentor, from his father, from his patient Mizuki, from his memories… from his own self.

He didn't know where he was going, but his feet kept moving, even if his muscles were burning, crying out in pain, he couldn't stop.

He found it…

God, he found it!

Why were they so happy? Why?!

It started to rain, making feel more anguished by the second. Rain was painful, it brought so much memories…

Stop it, he pleaded.

Why him… of all people?

He wouldn't be this horrified if it was someone else; someone wiser, someone…

Someone that was not him.

He finally realized where he going and, finally, he stopped running. Now walking, he came to the tofu shop.

As if he was crying out for help, he saw someone rushing out the house. As if…

As if she felt that feeling too.

"Asou-kun?"

Aya's mother, Shioka, with an umbrella, ran towards him and looked at him in the eyes. He was panting, shaking…

"I found it." He whispered, and he wished she didn't hear the next words. "I found the cure."

Shioka dropped the umbrella and covered her mouth with her trembling hands. Her eyes shined with unshed tears, looking almost… broken.

He was sure she was asking herself the same question that was killing him.

Why… now?

Just… why now?

That wouldn't… bring her back.

"I'm sorry…" he managed to say. "I'm so sorry."

Aya's mother broke down and hugged him tightly. He was shocked for a moment, but he didn't move. He couldn't.

"Don't… apologize." She sobbed. "You're going to be able to save a lot of people… I'm sure she'd be so proud of you…"

The tears he didn't know he was holding in finally fell and they mixed with raindrops on the ground.

No matter what they said… he couldn't understand it.

He wanted to go back…

I want to build a time machine to go back in time!

"… Why… now?" He managed to say through sobs.

Shioka did hear him, but… she didn't want to answer that.

. . .

Alright. It's done.

Yeah, yeah. It's just and alternate universe 'cause Haruto actually found a cure. Sigh, but I thought about just for a second and I thought: "That'd be… cruel." But I wrote it anyway.

I don't know if there's some readers of 1 litre no namida left… but I hope I find someone who'd like to write about this wonderful yet sorrowful drama.

Anyway

I hope you liked it.
