Superboy, Wondergirl, Superman – fly me to the moon

He should've known not to tell her but the full moon had made him oddly sentimental and retrospection had loosened his tongue, on my first night of freedom I tried to touch the moon. Cassie got that look in her eyes, the one that burned streams, the spark of determination that could drive her to move heaven and earth, if she wished.

"C'mon," she said by way of warning, and her arms snaked under his like the start of a wrestling hold and they were rising, rising, rising.

He protested - - at least she wasn't carrying him bridal style - - he struggled - - did this count as kidnapping? - - but once he saw that they were high enough that he could see flakes of ice forming on her lips, he stopped.

"How's the view?" she said. Her eyes were swallowing the moon.

Conner wondered, if being able to be so high up like this was what kept Superman humble, the reminder that every single thing on this world, even himself, was equal in their smallness. Superman remembered this even when on ground, even when the Kroleteans he was trying to save aimed their weapons at him and he was blown into the water and though he was alive he didn't stop hurting because they were not.

The trick, Conner thought, the trick was to carry a piece of the moon with you.

"It's amazing," he said, pretending that he was trembling from the cold. "Thanks for the lift."

Cassie beamed. They began to descend.

This time, Conner took a piece of the moon.
