All For You

Stop it

when you smile like that

it breaks my heart

to smile like that

to me

undeserving

blood taints my hands

but you stand there

unaware

trusting

so innocent

I don't know if I can stop you

but I'll try

I'll try

to save you

from me

don't love me

hate me

despise me

I don't care

but as long as we're under the same sky

I'll be there for you

He was pushing her away. He knew it broke her heart. The way she looked at him, his resolve almost cracked, his delicate barrier shattered. The barrier he drew up so long ago, to stop this from happening. Of getting close.

Of falling.

They way her hair blew in the wind, her smile illuminated a dark room. Her quiet authority had him captivated. If she asked him to sacrifice himself, he would do so. He would give up everything for her, but she would get hurt. He knew it, he wasn't good enough for her.

But he had to face it. He was whipped.

The great god that was Toushiro Hitsugaya was w h i p p e d.

She had him tied around her tiny fingers of manipulation.

So he decided it was better that she found someone else, someone warmer. To make her laugh, to make her smile. Not him, she didn't deserve him. He was ice and she was the sun, bright and loving.

"That will be all Vice Captain Hinamori." he said frostily as she put down the stack of paperwork.

"Is there anything else Toushiro-kun?" she looked at him with concern.

Damn those eyes. Looking at me so pleadingly. But I have to be strong, push her away, it's for the best.

For her happiness...

"No, thank you." He said politely but cold, "And it's Hitsugaya-Taichou."

He saw her stiffen, her eyes welling up with tears. His refusal to look into her eyes.

His traitorous heart throbbed.

"Look at me!" she cried, "Dammit Toushiro, look at me!"

He turned, fixing an apathetic look on his face.

"What do you want?"

"Stop pushing me away. Ignoring me. Acting like this. What's wrong with you!?"

"I don't know what you're talking about Hinamori-san."

"That! I have a name. You used to call me it remember?"

His resolution was waning.

"It's..." he said slowly, "for the best."

But in his heart he was crying. I love you.

"NO!" she screamed, "The best for who?!"

"For you... I don't deserve you..." he mumbled.

"Deserve you?" she repeated, awestruck.

"You deserve someone brighter, someone..." he trailed off.

She touched his chin, and slowly turned his head to look at her.

"There's only one problem," she breathed leaning in, "They wouldn't be you."

And for the first time in years, he smiled.

Taking her hand in his, he said the words that were dying to be said from the moment he met her.

She opened her palm, there in the middle was an ice rose bud.

Crystalline and fragile, but still full of hope.

"I love you."
