Behind a dumpster, by an empty church, a grating, whirring sound can be heard. Seconds later, a blue police box appears. The door opens and a man steps out. He's wearing a blue pinstriped suit and a long brown coat. He's tall and thin with dark brown hair, and eyes that hold centuries of life, love, and loss. His name is the Doctor.
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people
The Doctor walks into the church and sits in the back pew. He watches quietly as a lady cleans up from a wedding.
Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been.
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing a face she keeps in a jar by the door.
Who is it for?
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
The lady has finished cleaning, and goes to stand and stare out the window with a smile plastered on her face. The Doctor idly wonders who she's smiling at.
Quietly he gets up and walks around. In the back of the church, at the end of a hall, a door sits slightly ajar. A light is on inside the room and the Doctor can just see a man sitting at a desk writing.
Father McKensie, writing the words to a sermon that no one will hear
No one comes near
Look at him working, darning his socks in the night when no one is there
What does he care?
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people
The Doctor turns and walks back out to the main part of the church. The lady from earlier is no longer standing at the window. The Doctor looks around, wondering where she's gone. He spots a hand sticking out from behind a pew. Rushing over, he finds the lady collapsed on the floor, one hand clutched to her chest. The Doctor quickly kneels down to check her pulse. Nothing. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a long, silver, vaguely pen-like device and scans her with it. She's dead. A heart attack.
Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name.
Nobody came.
Father McKensie, wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave.
No one was saved.
After the funeral the Doctor heads back to his blue box, head slightly bowed. He gets in and it starts fading away.
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
