Disclaimer: Stephenie Meyer's characters are not mine, as you well know. Laura is though; she is my BFF and happens to have cropped up in this random daydream of mine, so this story goes out to her. Reviews are welcome.
The boy I've been discreetly staring at for the last quarter of an hour is walking towards me. He's tall and muscular, but has a surprisingly boyish face that makes him look smaller and more approachable than he is. His hair looks as if he cut it short a while ago and just recently started growing it out again. It falls gracefully into his chocolate eyes as he marches determinedly forwards. And he's Native American. That's what initially attracted my attention; the exotic tone of his skin, the way he moves with an animal grace, which years of oppression and assimilation could not squeeze out of his culture.
"Hi," he says somewhat nervously when he reaches me. "I'm Seth."
I stifle a squeal and accept his handshake, almost forgetting to introduce myself, too. I tell him my name while marveling at the coincidence that he possesses my favorite masculine name. I mean, what are the chances that there would be a guy out there who was both Native American and named Seth? It doesn't seem like it would be a common Native American name, but come to think of it, I had heard of it one before…
"Wait – did you say Seth?" I ask.
"Yeah, Seth Clearwater." The look of recognition must have been obvious on my face, because he continues, "I see you've read the books. That's good. Then maybe you'll think I'm crazy, but at least you'll understand when I say this:
"I've imprinted."
I couldn't believe it! The characters from Stephenie Meyer's are real, and one of them felt a strange wolf-y attraction to me! After years of waiting boyfriend-less for the perfect guy to come along, here one was, ready to pledge absolute devotion and complete loyalty to me forever. I was still trying to wrap my head around my good fortune when he went on.
"…on your friend. The tall, skinny one with freckles on her nose. Would you introduce me, please?"
I look at Laura standing several feet away, then back at his shining, innocent face, then back at Laura.
"Sure." I say.
