This is Mulan's recount of when she climbed the pole. And that is technically it.
Disclamer: I don't own Mulan but if I did, there would be more camp scenes.
"Go home," Captain Le Shang coldly ordered, "You're through."
He handed me the reins of Khan and walked into his tent. Apparently, Shang was finally fed up of my clumsiness and my ability to take shortcuts. As I started walking, a dark shadow passes over me. I look up to see the pole with an arrow stuck on top. Remembering that first training day when Shang shot that arrow, I knew nobody could reach it with those heavy weights around their wrists.
It was impossible.
But sometimes it's possible to do something that seems impossible. There must be a solution for this problem.
No matter what, I will prove to Shang that I belong in the army starting by conquering that pole. As I put the weights of, I brainstorm on ideas of how to climb it. Obviously, based on the efforts of the whole army that first day, you can't climb it with your bare hands.
I start climbing in different ways, but I keep falling down. There must be a way that will not hurt my hands so much. Hmm, what if I wrap and tie the long straps of the weights behind the pole to give me a sort of an anchor? It works! I never knew that climbing like this would be easier.
I passed the middle of the pole and was closer to the top when the sun's first rays shine brightly into my eyes. Caught off-guard, I slip and hold on to the weights for dear life. Getting my grip again, I continue.
Reaching the top, I pluck the arrow out and sit on the top when I am blasted with a deafening roar from all around me. The climb up the pole had taken so much concentration that I didn't notice that the whole camp had gathered around me to cheer me on. The loudest cheers I could hear where from my camp buddies, Yao, Ling, and Chien-Po.
Wiping the sweat from my forehead, I throw down the arrow right when Shang came out of his tent. Startled, he looked at the arrow and at me several times with a disbelieving look on his face. As I come down, I'm plagued with thoughts like, maybe he still wants me to go home, or even if I could complete one training task, I couldn't complete the others, ect.
Right when my feet touch the ground, a huge cheer once more sounds throughout the camp. Shang catches my eye and nods in approval, and seeing me still nervous, leans in and murmurs, "Fine, you can stay."
Relief floods through me as I threw him a grateful look and turned to celebrate with my friends. Feeling a bit anxious about the noise we were making, since we were supposed to come silently in the mornings, I sneak a quick look back. Shang had picked up the arrow and was staring at it thoughtfully. Then he looked up and started barking for silence and obedience.
From then the day was a normal one, but the whole camp was energized by my incredible feat that morning. Since most of them think I'm clumsy and girly, they were outraged to a point that they had to master the other tasks before me to keep up their 'manly' honor. But since I'm still in the army right now, that is all that matters.
What did you guys think? This is my first fanfic ever. My family was surprised to a point of yelling, 'THE WORLD HAS COME TO AN END!! AAAHHH!!' since I usually hate to write that badly. But I'm turning a new leaf and starting with this story, I will start to like to write!
