Rest
"Temari."
"Hmm," A sleepy voice responded. The two kunoichi were lounging in TenTen's bed. Temari was lazily twisting locks of TenTen's hair into curls around her finger.
"Why is the fan your favorite weapon to use," TenTen asked glancing curiously at the blonde.
Temari thought on the question for a moment, "Everything in Suna is about control. My brother Kankuro controls his puppets, Gaara controlled his bijuu and he controls sand. I manipulate and control wind. It's just something I picked up as a child. I think I picked up a fan before I even picked up a kunai."
"I bet you were a bad child growing up," TenTen chuckled trying to imagine the older woman as a rowdy kid.
Temari shook her head, "No, I was the oldest. I had to keep Kankuro in line, he was the bad one."
TenTen shifted on the bed and gently caressed Temari's face, "Do you miss your brothers?" The question was asked so softly Temari almost missed it.
"Sometimes, but I don't regret becoming a liaison for Konoha. Don't worry. I can see them any time and I know they won't die on me, they are both too stubborn for death. They know I will kick their ass in the afterlife if they do," Temari joked. There was no reason for TenTen to worry about anything, she wasn't going anywhere and she knew that Konoha was the weapon mistress' home and she wouldn't leave here either. They would make it work somehow, even if Temari had to commute.
"So what about you? Brothers, sisters?" Temari had been here for months and hadn't seen any sign of the weapon mistress having siblings but she still wanted to be sure.
TenTen shook her head, "I'm an only child, but I think that once my parents found out that I had chakra beyond normal levels of a civilian they wanted another child. I feel like they keep me at arm's length sometimes because they are worried that one of these days I won't be coming back and they will get that visit from Hokage telling them I died in service. They always stressed independence; I had my own apartment at fifteen. It was getting too difficult to talk to my parents about my day at dinner and tell them I killed two people just so they could be safe in Konoha. It wasn't working out. Hurts my dad's heart to know I grew up so fast."
"You still see your parents?"
"Yes, I get little invitations here and there to dinner or out with them to eat. It still just isn't the same."
Temari lay back down on the pillow folding her arms underneath her head, "My father always treated us like tools. We never had that relationship with our parents you once had with your parents."
TenTen looked at the blonde sadly; there was just something in her lover's voice that held a hint of regret. It was at this point that TenTen realized that no one really treated Temari much like a person; she was more of an object to people. To her father a tool, her brothers a mediator, and once to TenTen she was the epitome of betrayal. Who ever saw Temari for Temari?
Temari made a shocked squeak when she was suddenly bear hugged by TenTen. She did not know the reason for the hug but she returned it just as intensely.
