Flash forward and we're taking on the world together
And there's a drawer of my things at your place
You learn my secrets and you figure out why I'm guarded
You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes
And I remember that fight, 2:30 a.m.
everything was slipping right out of our hands.
I ran out crying and you followed me out into the street
Wally ran out in a frantic hurry, "where did she go?" he spat through his teeth. He wasn't angry, well, not at her. He was angry at himself. He had finally gotten behind her walls. He was stitching up her wounds and healing her bruises. He knew about her past. Then that all changed so quick. Those words, whether they were shouted or whispered (in this case, shouted) would hurt her, and he knew it. He wanted to beat himself up over this, but he knew there was something he had to do first. Something much more important than himself; he had to find her.
Braced myself for the goodbye
'Cause that's all I've ever known
"Brace yourself for the goodbye, Arty. Everyone you loved has left in the past. Why would this be any different? Why would you even let yourself believe that he would truly care?" she thought to herself. "How is he any different. He will leave, just like everyone else."
Then you took me by surprise
You said I'll never leave you alone
He sped around a corner and skidded to a halt. Huddled in against a wall in the alley, was a lump of green and blonde. A beautiful lump, that had crumbled into ash with shaking shoulders and a tear stained face. He paced to her slowly, calculating every step. He sat next to her and pulled her close. She tried to push him away; she shoved his chest, slapped his face and fell into him. Heavy sobs and tight embraces lasted for only mere moments before he spoke.
"I remember how we felt sitting by the water," she looked up at him. His green eyes barely visible in the alley, but she swore she saw them sparkle.
"And every time I look at you," He put his hand on her face. "it's like the first time."
She put her arms around him and pulled herself up so their noses were touching.
"I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter," He continued.
"She is the best thing that's ever been mine."
