A little fic for my lovely readers. Everything belongs to Paramount, you know it. Please note that English is my second language!
I look at her old face and her eyes. She gazes lovingly at me with tenderness. She looked at father differently. She never looked like this at anyone but me. That look is special. That look is a look that mothers from all species give to their daughters, even when their daughters have just gotten themselves into trouble.
Her hand clutches mine, her fingers trembling. I hold on to her, not ready to let her go. I will have to, soon, but not just now. My other hand strokes her hair, the soft silver strays. She smiles. Before father died her hair was still brown, only two or three locks were gray. After father's death she seemed to age very rapidly, her hair becoming silver. But she still is a beautiful woman. If father was here he would definitely agree with me.
Mother knew she would outlive father. He was human. She was Vulcan. I once asked father why he decided to marry a woman he knew who would outlive him. He laughed and said: 'Pumpkin, when you fall in love with someone you will realize why.' When she heard she had the disease and that she would die soon she asked me to stay with her.
'Don't let me die alone, T'Liz.' She said, her voice filled with emotion. And my emotional control shattered, just like hers.
'I would never leave you alone, mother.' I whispered.
I look at the picture on the nightstand. It's a picture of the Enterprise crew. Mother, pregnant of Charles Tucker the Fourth, sits in the captain's chair. Next to her stands father, holding me in his arms. I'm wearing a headband and a pink dress. I believe I have it somewhere at my home. Aunt Hoshi and Uncle Malcolm are standing on the other side of mother. Uncle Malcolm has his arm around Aunt Hoshi. Uncle Jonathan stands behind the chair. Uncle Travis sits in front of father and me. Uncle Phlox is not on the photo, he was on Denobula.
Everyone on the picture is dead now, everyone except me, Charles and mother. Charles is on Earth, he wasn't able to come to Vulcan. Mother and I are on Vulcan, in the house of T'Les, my grandmother.
'T'Liz.' Whispers mother. I smile at her.
'Yes, mother?'
She doesn't answer but then she closes her eyes. I don't need to check her pulse to know she is dead. Her hand grows cold but I don't let her hand go. She looks so peaceful. I don't cry, I don't do anything.
'Rest in peace, mother.' I whisper touching my mother's cheek one last time. I look out the window, seeing the sun rise.
Another day is coming.
