The last thing that Humanities teacher Amy Dumas can remember was the blinding light of the oncoming SUV as it swerved into her lane, the redhead jerking the steering wheel quickly to avoid the sudden impact. And while she'd successfully managed to do that, she wasn't completely out of danger as her vehicle went off the road, flipping over several times before settling at the bottom of a ditch.

Oddly enough she can't even remember the pain of the accident but she knows that she should have some pretty nasty injuries.

Blinking rapidly to shield her eyes from the light, Amy tentatively sat up from her bed. A bed that wasn't even in a proper hospital room but rather an empty space…

The thought briefly occurred to her that she shouldn't be able to do sit up, let alone move that much after the devastating accident…

"Awake already?"

Amy glanced over sharply to the source of the voice, an eyebrow arching at the tall blond male. "Who are you? And where am I?"

He smiled a little, deciding to just tell her the truth instead of wasting precious time, "you're between worlds and I'm Adam."

Hazel eyes narrowed suspiciously, "between worlds? Are you a ghost or a reaper?"

Adam snorted softly, "oh heavens no, they're far uglier than I am, babe. I'm an angel."

There was a long moment of silence before Amy started to laugh, "An angel?" She managed to gasp out, "you're an angel?"

"Yup… on my way to becoming a guardian angel, actually."

This time it was Amy's turn to snort, "Well if you're my guardian angel, I'd say you weren't doing your job properly."

Adam huffed, running a hand through his shoulder length blond hair, "for your information, I'm responsible for you not perishing in a fiery inferno." And when she rolled her eyes, he did as well, "yeah, I know pretty corny but it's one of those standard lines."

In truth, he would have preferred if she was his responsibility but alas, no… his case was far bigger than this.

Amy shrugged a little, glancing down at the smooth skin of her arms, "so am I dead or what?"

"You're alive… well; your body is alive, anyway. You're in a coma," Adam supplied.

"And you're going to return me to my body, right? I can't exactly stay a spirit forever."

Adam looked amused, "you're not a spirit so I can't exactly return you to anywhere. You're physically here and your body is physically on earth." Arms crossing, he continued, "it's hard to explain but you're existing in both realms."

Amy's forehead furrowed in confusion, "so how do I get back to my life on earth?"

Adam pointed upwards, "He's working on it."

Amy groaned, seating herself back on the bed, "And how long is that going to take?"

"It shouldn't be too much longer," Adam guessed and then grinned, "And in the meantime, you have me to keep you company."

Amy didn't seem too enthused.
