Kiba sucks ass at cooking meals, he was only doing this pain in the ass thing to treat his two best friends and now he has to pay the consequences. His new apartment now reeks of smoke as he tries to air out the vicinity as best as possible before they come over and he suddenly hears a knock at the front.
Shit, they're already here.
"Be a moment!" He turns to Akamaru laying on the carpet in the living room and whistles. "Hey, Akamaru, grab me another fan will ya," the dog awakens and gives a quiet bark as he patters over to the table picking the end of the wooden fan by his mouth and going to where Kiba is in the kitchen trying to use a towel to shoo the smoke out.
"Thanks bud," he moves the fan quickly as he hears two knocks once again.
"Kiba?" He hears Hinata's voice and Shino's low rumble saying something that Kiba tries to catch, but for some reason can't make out what it was.
"Alright, uh—"
Suddenly the door opens and Shino is there, standing in the threshold, his eyebrow raised in question and Hinata peers behind his back curiously.
Kiba laughs nervously: "It's really not what you think it looks like."
He realizes he hasn't even changed and he's only in his boxers—the embarrassing dog print ones that Hinata got him last christmas, and an old ass sweater Hana had made him three years prior with holes in it already.
Hinata giggles and Shino speaks: "Kiba, do you need a hand?"
He knows he's going to be made fun of for weeks, Hana tried helping him by giving him recipes and strictly telling him to follow the directions, but even that he couldn't do.
Hinata steps by and Kiba nearly has a heart attack as she takes the towel he was using earlier and helps wave the rest of the smoke out. "If you needed us to come by later we could have," she chides softly and he feels the flush in the tips of his ears.
"Ah geez, Hinata, give me a break—I was tryna do something for both of ya, but it kind of came out a mess." Hinata shakes her head, smiling.
"Well, we're more than happy to fix your errors, Kiba." Shino says, and he's right next to him.
"Shut up, Shino, you're no better at this stuff than I am."
Shino's glasses catch the light and he gives him a wry smile. "I would have been more than happy to have this get together at my complex, Kiba."
"Your apartment is filled with terrariums you bastard, you wouldn't let us walk around without giving us an earful to tread quietly."
"You all walk like barbarians, especially you, Kiba."
"Shut the hell up, Shino!"
Hinata calls them to attention as they both cease their quarreling to look at her. "We can fix this mess together, yes?" She's always been much better at compromising and Kiba grins.
Shino gives her a pleasant nod, as he sets down the extra bags of stuff he had helped Hinata bring in earlier for their regular movie night and dinner; grabbing the extra apron, Shino puts it on and tosses the other at Kiba's head which he yells about.
Hinata getting the third one off the rack ties her hair up in a ponytail and grabs the recipe on the counter and begins to read.
All the while, Akamaru barks amiably as he curls up in the living room to watch them busy themselves in the kitchen.
Just a typical Saturday night off.
