Chapter One

I leaned against a tree trying to ignore the empty feeling I had. I slid down it and sit at its base. My stomach rumbled and I push a hand on my stomach, trying to will the hunger away. I closed my eyes trying to think though my pounding headache. I looked up at the sky and scowled at the dark grey clouds. Why couldn't they just go away? A wave of pain in my head made me shut my eyes again tightly.

I was in one of Jump City's only parks searching for sunlight. It was an overcast day, like the rest of the week and I was getting desperate. I hadn't veered out into the public eye at all since my escape from them and I was terrified but frantic. If sunlight didn't come soon, I was done for.

But the sky seemed worse here than in the city. The clouds completely consumed the sky. I heard a twig snap and opened my eyes, looking around for the familiar white suites of the agents. I started trembling slightly thinking about my captors. I had just managed to get away from them 2 weeks ago. I took a deep breath and willed myself to stop shaking. But then my thoughts turned to The Gardens and my body shook even more.

The Gardens was where I was changed, created into what I am today: a freak. I was abducted by them when I was little and experimented on. I don't know why and I don't know how they did what they did, but now I'm different. I can't eat food anymore and only rely on sunlight. My skin is green and my hair is a light pink. I also have powers that I can barely control. The Gardens was supposedly shut down, but its still thriving. And now the agents are after me. And I was slowly dying to top it off. My skin was grey from lack of sunlight and my hair was greasy and knotted. I was parched.

I yawned and felt the skin in my throat stretch. It was dry and it hurt to swallow. I needed to sleep. Maybe I'd feel better with some rest.

I closed my eyes and laid my head on the trunk. I was exhausted; being on the run for 2 weeks could really drain a person. I could barely move and my neck ached. I touched the ring of burns encasing it and winced. I put my hands down folded on my lap and tried to sleep. Just as I drifted into unconsciousness I heard a long, piercing scream and sat up straight, alarmed and wide awake.

"Damn," I thought as I looked for the source of the scream, a little upset that I couldn't even rest for a tiny while without something bad happening.

"Damn!" I said as I saw what had caused it.

My eyes widened as a massive purple monster spewed acid everywhere. It had large green bulbs on its skin and its arms destroyed everything that wasn't touched by its acid. As it knocked down a building and people screamed in terror I knew I had one of two options. One: stop the monster or two: run away. But as I saw the monster soak a woman in acid and she flailed around on the floor dying, I knew I had only one choice. I was going to take the creature down. I mustered up any courage I had left and ran towards the purple creature.

Around it was chaos. People ran screaming in every direction, the paving crumbled and caved in, and buildings were crumbling down on pedestrians. As people ran to and fro I decided my first line in action was to make sure the street was deserted. The people in the building surrounding the monster were practically screwed if I didn't stop it, but first I had to make sure the pedestrians were safe. I concentrated and the tree moved their branches, plucking up random people left and right. Controlling plants was fairly easy and didn't require much energy to do so. Even though the citizens sounded terrified that trees were kidnapping them, I figured it was better than dying. I let the branches of the trees in the park carry the people away to safety. Soon the street was deserted and the purple blob didn't even notice.

Now what to do with the monster? I was beginning to feel tired and I knew I had to act quickly before I lost the strength to continue. I didn't know if this was The Garden's way of drawing me out into the public's eye, but it certainly did. I had to stop this beast and quickly get away before TG saw me on the TV or online. I could see a person recording me out of the corner of my eye and quickly carted him away with the help of my trusty trees. The trees! Thats what I'd use!

I took a deep breath and sent two trees after it. They literally uprooted themselves and attacked the beast, their branches swinging, their roots curling around the monster's bottom as they scaled the beast to attack the bulbs on its back. While the monster was distracted I started to grown a poison. I didn't see any other way to stop the creature other than killing it. It was going to kill a lot more if I didn't stop it. The poison grew quickly and in moments it was ready to use. I took a deep breath, I knew I could reverse the toxins if I wanted to, but I also knew if I didn't the creature would die. I would've killed something, something had done before. I knew the toll it took on your heart and I knew I'd hate myself for this, but it was for the greater good.

I made vines grow from out of no-where and they connected to the building surrounding the monster. I plucked the poison, a plant called hemlock, and held my hand out. A vine wrapped around my arm and my body was quaking. I had never done this with one hand before. I used the vines to swing me closer and closer to the monster. The trees were practically destroyed, broken in half and all the leaves ripped from its branches, but they still kept fighting. I jumped away from the vine and as the monster open its mouth to spew acid on me. Another vine saved my fall but my hand and arm had nasty rugburn. It stung and tears leaked out of my eyes but the wind whipped them away. I crossed the monster's path again and this time was able to shove the poison down it's throat with a scream. As it fell, shuddering to the ground I landed on my feet next to it. At the same time I heard a guy's voice scream out, "TEEN TITANS…" His voice trailed off as he took in the scene. I ignored him rushed over to the convulsing monster. The purple goo was melting fast and I saw something inside it also convulsing. A man was inside there! I knew I had to act quick, it was one thing killing a monster, it was completely different thing killing a human. How had he gotten there? Did the monster absorb him? I kneeled down next to him and fought off a grimace as my knees and calves got soaked with purple goo. I put my hand on his chest a slowly withdrew the poison. It was difficult to do and my vision blurred as the last of it came out. It looked like black sludge and slowly sunk into the earth around us.

The man opened his eyes for a moment and then became unconscious. I stood up and stumbled a few feet, feeling dizzy. I put my hand on my head and swayed. I was seriously drained.

Someone touched my arm and I jumped back in surprise and fear. A girl with orange skin and green eyes exclaimed, "Are you alright? I am Starfire and this is Robin, Raven, Cyborg, and Beast Boy! We are the Teen Titans!" with each name she gestured to a person behind her with a wave of her hand. I looked at the group wide eyed with fear. The boy named Robin had a really colorful outfit on with a mask that concealed his eyes. Raven had a dark cape on and floated slightly off the ground. Cyborg was exactly how he sounded . Half-man, half-robot, he towered over the rest. Lastly the kid named Beast Boy had green skin like mine (Even though mine was a famished gray right now.) and pointy ears.

Starfire smiled at me brightly and said, "What is your name? Do you want to be my friend?" I stared mutely at her.

"You fought Plasmus most bravely!" she added.

Who were these people? Were they going to hurt me? I paled slightly and whispered to her, "I've gotta go." I backed away then added quickly glancing at the Teen Titans, "Nice meeting all of you!"

She took a step towards me and questioned uncertainly, "Friend?" Crap. I spun around and ran as fast as I could.

Hi, author here! So I've decided to rewrite the first few chapters I've posted. This because I looked back at what I wrote recently and didn't like how it read at all! I will still keep the plot the same but I'm just rewriting it so I feel better about it. Thanks for reading and make sure to review and favorite/follow! :)
