You do know that this'll end badly, right?

Certainly in the beginning, his intentions had been better. He'd wanted to be regarded as special. That was partially his mother's fault.

"You can be whatever you want, Gabriel. I just want you to be special," she'd said too many times for him to count. Special. It didn't quite fit what he could do now. Gifted sounded too childish, and dangerous was a little too extreme.

In the beginning, he'd wanted to find others like him, he'd wanted to make his mother proud, and he'd wanted to prove to that damned Chandra Suresh that he could be something more than a watchmaker. Murder was never on his agenda, but when Brian Davis, lost little Brian Davis wandered into his shop, something just clicked. He knew what he had to do. It was his, as he'd assured the poor guy, evolutionary imperative. He didn't want to, just like spiders didn't want to eat their young. It was a compulsion.

And so the battle for the control of Gabriel Gray began.

Mostly, when he was around normal people, he was Gabriel, with Sylar yammering away about his latest obsession in his head. For example, when he was going to the bank, Sylar was rambling on about how whether or not he could steal all the money and make it out without getting shot and what would everyone think about Sylar-the-serial-killer turning into Sylar-the-bank-robber. Sometimes Gabriel wished he hadn't met Dr. Suresh.

When he was around people with abilities, and, oddly enough, Suresh Jr (who, apart from extraordinary naivety, was powerless), he was all Sylar. Running around, trying to find people, warn them away from himself, that was amusing. The only downside was that the roles were reversed, so Gabriel was in Sylar's head, yelling at him that he was insane, trying to stop him. Forgetting that you can't really plot to overthrow your murderous alter-ego when you're inside his head.

Kirby Plaza was a turning point. For once Sylar was completely in control, Gabriel having shut up as soon as Isaac Mendez was killed (probably having given up). Then Peter Petrelli and Bennet showed up. Bennet was easy to deal with, but Sylar wanted Peter to die slowly. The blonde who hit him with the parking meter took him by surprise. So did little Hiro Nakamura and the sword. As the blade was pulled from his stomach, Gabriel finally spoke.

Told you so.
