AN: So this is something I concocted awhile back. It is the tale of Tui and La, the Moon and Ocean spirits. It's based on the idea that Tui had a separate identity from Yue. So that when Tui is killed at the end of book one, she, as an identity, is gone, replaced by Yue. This is reinforced by Sokka's references to Yue as the moon spirit in later episodes. Yue, as the new moon spirit, is an identity in and of herself. And so was Tui.

These will be a series of relatively random drabbles concerning Tui and La. Basically my headcanons. It's a headcanon gone out of control, if I'm being perfectly honest. I won't necessarily be taking prompts for this, though I am open to suggestions concerning TuiLa's timeline. Mostly this is just full of OC feels. So... Um... Bare with me.

Prologue

Long ago, before there was bending or people, before the spirits knew the difference between our world and the next, there was the moon and the ocean. And the ocean looked up into the endless black sky and saw the beauty and light of the moon. And without meaning to, he fell in love with her. He longed to learn her name, to know her like the sky knew her. So he reached out in the night and rested in the day. But she was far and he could not reach.

And the moon looked down on the earth. She saw the ocean and, without meaning to, she loved him. She had no hands to reach nor seas to sway, but she concocted a plan so they might be together at last.

The moon knew the risks of giving up her mortality. And so did the ocean. But together, they reasoned it could be done—so they gave up their immortal bodies, sacrificed their security, and joined each other in the mortal world.

And so they circled each other, never parting, forever.

Or so they thought.
