She stood next to him and as always, asking about his opinions. For a first time he didn't know what to say. No one knew for sure what future would bring to them.
,,So, what would you do?" she asked. ,,And I don't want diplomatic answer. I got enough of those."
,,Well I don't know commander, I am just a pilot, not hero like you. But a damn great pilot I have to say," he grinned at her.
But Shepard didn't want to let it go.
,,Just try. For example, imagine how it would be other way. You in my place doing all that crazy galaxy saving stuff, and I in your place, in your comfortable leather seat. "
Joker laughed at the thought. ,,Let's see. What I would do? Except for trying to teach my arrogant helmsman some respect for his superior, or rather trying to get into my pilot panties?"
Shepad looked at him. If this was a game for him, she can be part of it as well.
,,Well, I have been trying that for years now and it still hasn't worked."
His typing stopped abruptly and Shepard smirked in satisfaction. She decided now it would be good time to leave, and at least for this time be winner of their verbal contest.
But as she made one step, his words came to her.
,,Which one?" he asked, staring at holo screen in front of him. And even through he tried to hide it under his usual humor, his tone was suddenly serious.
She didn't move, breathing slowly, reluctant not to turn. ,,What do you think?," she spoke, and with horror she realized, that there was blush creeping up her cheeks.
Joker went silent for a few seconds and Shepard mused at the thought, how quickly this little game of theirs turned into something much more.
His silence was worrying and as it came to her, in those quiet seconds, she somehow had forgotten how to breathe.
,,Riight," he only said.
But then he turned his head to side and with slight smile on his face he added, much to Shepard relief. ,, Better hold to that one."
She smiled and left him, grinning all the way to the loft.
