This is the Prologue to what I assume (and hope) will be a long and interesting fanfiction. This is my first Oblivion fanfic, so, concrit is very welcome.
"Prisoner! Stand back! Over by the window, now!" Glenroy barked.
"Window?" The prisoner looked side to side aimlessly.
Then Baurus noticed the blindfold. "Sir, she can't see."
"What?"
"She's blind."
"Oh… Stand against the wall farthest from the door," the second-in-command amended.
She did so, her head down.
"You…" the emperor marveled. "I've seen you."
The girl's head snapped up, alert.
"Let me see your face. You are the one from my dreams. Then the stars were right, and this is the day. Gods give me strength." He proceeded to tell her that his sons were attacked by assassins, and that his Blades were leading him out of the city.
"You don't expect to survive…" she murmured.
"I do not. Which is why you must come with us. Your destiny is bound with Tamriel's."
She nodded, and pressed on a brick in the wall. The door to the secret passage out of the city scraped open slowly.
The Blades stared. "How did you…" Renault began.
"I've spent enough time in here to notice the irregularities."
They exchanged glances, but pressed forward, the prisoner following the sound of their heavily booted footsteps.
Assassins attacked them soon after they entered and killed the Captain. Glenroy, now the commanding officer, decided to leave the prisoner in the dungeon there.
Baurus glanced back at the girl, who was sitting on a step, facing the wall, waiting. They left and she barely noted their absence.
After the second attack, she slipped down a ledge.
"Dammit, it's that prisoner again!" Glenroy snarled, "Kill her, she might be working with the assassins!"
Baurus raised an eyebrow skeptically but said nothing.
"No. She is not one of them. She will help us. She must help us," Uriel said.
"You see me…" She walked closer to the emperor and whispered, "You understand."
"I do. I have seen you in my dreams and the stars. Which brings me to wonder… which stars were you born under?"
"I was born under the Thief. Strangely enough, considering that I'm a," her mouth twisted into a grimace. "A knight."
"Come with us. There is still a ways to go before the end." He was not talking about the end of the tunnel.
She kneeled over the body of her emperor. Tears soaked into her blindfold and she put the Amulet of Kings in her pocket, walking determinedly to the sewer grate. She had swiped Baurus's key earlier, thinking that it might come in handy. It did.
My name is Raelyn. I was once a black-haired, grey-eyed Imperial. I am now what is called a Grey Knight. Not much is known about us. We are a crazed man's ramblings, an old scholar's speculation. A nightmare. We are mind readers.
