-Of course I don't know own any character but Margaret, and I have no intention of claiming the rest as my own.
-As usual, reviews are always more than welcome.
A Beautiful Sight
"Welcome home, sir" John held out the door of the carriage for his employer.
"Thank you" he replied, greeted by Mrs. Fairfax, waiting for him at door.
"Good evening, Mrs. Fairfax".
"Good evening sir, I hope your journey were successful" Edward had been called to London on business for nearly a week; it was good to return to Thornfield.
"Yes, it was quite successful. Where are Jane and the children?".
"Mrs. Rochester and the children have all retired for the evening" the older housekeeper replied.
"Thank you" handing his hat and jacket to her, he walked upstairs toward the bedrooms.
Entering Adele's room, he found the candle burning low, the book nearly falling out of her hands. He blew out the candle, placed the book on the table and pulled the blanket up her shoulders.
The coquettish brat he had unhappily inherited was becoming a bright and accomplished young lady, thanks to Jane's firm and loving tutelage. She would be fourteen within a few short months and it would not be much longer before he would have young men at his door.
He closed the door to her bedroom before walking to his own bedroom.
The candles had burnt out some time ago and although his sight had not been the same since the fire, he knew the layout of the room well enough to not cause injury to himself or anyone else.
"Edward?" Jane asked, stirring in her sleep.
"Here, love" he replied, stopping at the edge of the bed. It was beautiful sight to behold.
Their three year old daughter, Margaret, sleeping her mother's arms, her head laying on Jane's shoulder. Even in her sleep, Jane was protective of her children, both Margaret in her arms and the child in her womb, starting to grow beyond the confines of her clothes.
Quietly lifting Margaret into his arms, he returned her to the nursery.
When he had returned, Jane had woken up.
"Hi" she said.
"Hi" he replied, their eyes meeting.
"How was your journey?" she asked.
"Successful" he replied, removing the day's clothes and throwing them onto the nearby chair.
"Maggie was asking for you today".
"She was?" Her husband asked, climbing into bed.
"She was asking when you were coming home".
"What did you tell her?".
"I told her that papa was coming home very soon".
"And her mother?".
"Her mother missed you dearly".
"Did she now?" he asked, Jane rolled against Edward, her dark hair tickling his face.
"Yes, she did" He kissed her shoulder before they both finally settled into sleep.
The End
