A/N: I'm Back from France and as a treat (or traiter as they say in France), I thought I might as well give you a one-shot. So, here goes.
Early Mourning
I knelt on the pavement. It was raining, and my wet hair flopped into my eyes.
Last night I forgot, how the sound of your voice whispered sweet
Goodbyes, your eyes, left to die
I'm alone to understand why
Her frail body lay in my arms. There was blood gushing out the hole in her stomach.
"Mara?" I whispered.
Her eyes opened slightly.
"Jerome," she croaked, "You came."
"Who did this to you Mara?" I shook her gently, "Who did this?"
"Mick."
I knew Mick would try something like this. Ever since they broke up, he had been jealous of our friendship. And now he tried to kill her, so that she could never be with me.
Why not one more night
One last kiss goodbye
My sweet love tonight
I hope the stars
Still spell out your name where you are
It was 4:00 in the morning when she had called me. I had been asleep, and her call woke me up.
"Mara? What do you want?" I asked sleepily.
"Jerome. . . I've been shot."
I got there as fast as I could. She had been lying on the pavement, her arm outstretched, her eyes closed and her phone beside her. Kiss my closing eyes
Help me sleep,
Without you I'm so lost
Tonight I cry
Tell me why
I can't live without your warm embrace
"Jerome," she whispered. Her voice was weak.
"Yes Mara?"
"Am I going to die?"
"I. . . I don't know."
"Jerome?"
"Yes Mara?"
"If I am going to die. . . I want you to know. . ." She coughed.
"Mara? What do I need to know?" I shook her again, being careful of the gaping hole that had ripped her clothes.
"You need to know that. . . that I love you Jerome." She tried to smile, but her face was so pale and hollow that it looked like a grimace.
I bent down and kissed her. Why not one more night
One last kiss goodbye
My sweet love tonight
I hope the stars
Still spell out your name where you are
"Jerome," she coughed, "It hurts."
"I know," I said comfortingly.
"I'm going to die."
"Be brave Mara. I love you."
"I love you too, Jerome." I close my eyes and you are everything I see
Goodbye
She closed her eyes, and, with a peaceful smile on her face, she died.
I pressed my lips against hers for the last time. Goodbye to you my love
I won't forget you
I'll see you soon
Goodbye my love
Goodbye to you my love
I won't forget you
Bye, Bye love
Goodbye, Mara.
