I am in the mood for writing tragedy because one of my dogs had cancer and was put down today.
I also am a HUGE fan of the Fate series. I followed all 25 episodes of Fate/Apocrypha. One OST from it I really like is the sad one, "Affection". It inspired me to make the story.
Barry had just been running at high speeds down the road to Killer Frost - no, to Caitlin. But she had frozen the road in front of him, making him slide down the icy path on his back.
Caitlin walked over to the man groaning as he tried to recover. "How's that leg of yours doing?" Barry suddenly tried to sweep her off her feet with his left leg, but Caitlin had already anticipated this. She jumped up over it and, as she landed, conjured a spear of ice in her right hand. She stabbed it down, impaling Barry's left thigh. "That fall make you so winded that you can't move that fast? Or is your leg still bothering you?"
She took a few steps forward, now staring down at Barry's torso. She held out her right hand again, conjuring up another spear of ice.
"Don't do this, Caitlin!" Barry pleaded.
"Sorry, but Caitlin isn't here right now," the woman replied. "My name is Killer Frost. And right now, I'll show you why that is." At that moment, she stabbed down with the ice, aiming for Barry's heart.
"NO!"
A blue wave smashed into Caitlin, making her miss her target. But only slightly. She still stabbed Barry. But it was in his right lung this time. Caitlin flew back from the attack, her smashing into the windshield of a car and her body rolling off it. She was knocked out now.
Cisco came out from behind the tree he had used to take cover from Caitlin's attacks and ran up to Barry, who was gasping for air and bleeding heavily. Cisco knelled over his friend. Sure, he did still harbor a grudge towards Barry for the death of his brother. But he put that aside for now. Barry was still his best friend and always would be. "Hang on, Barry. I'll get you back to STAR labs."
"No," Barry managed to gasp out. But it was painful for him. It felt like a burning coal was placed inside him. He already knew. He wouldn't make it back alive. And even if he did, there wasn't anything the others could do for him. Medical was Caitlin's expertise. And Cisco probably already knew too.
Cisco bit his bottom lip. He did know. But he didn't want to let Barry die without trying to do something for him.
"I-Iris..." Barry croaked, talking despite the blood filling his throat.
It was too painful for him to talk more. To have Cisco give Iris the message that Barry loves her. But Cisco already knew what Barry wanted Cisco to tell her.
Tears came down from Cisco's eyes, hidden under his special glasses. "Don't worry, Barry. I'll tell her."
"Thank...you..." were Barry's last words before his eyes slowly closed.
"Barry..?" Cisco questioned, his voice trembling as he gently shook Barry's left shoulder.
"Barry..!" He shook harder.
"Say something!" No response from the motionless speedster.
With a heavy heart, Cisco stood up. He glanced at Caitlin. She was still unconscious. He felt a sudden urge to end the icy woman's life. It would be fair, right? After all, she took Barry's.
But Cisco stopped himself. He knew that Barry wouldn't want that. And so, Cisco activated his communicator, ready to tell everyone the sad news, that their hero was now gone forever.
