A clock struck twelve, and Percy set aside his book and took his glasses off.
Just as he was pulling a blanket over his shoulders, two tiny raps came from his door.
With a sigh, and a little bit of curiosity of who would be up so late, he called out, "Come in."
The door opened to reveal little Ron, who was only six years old.
He sniffled quietly, and Percy could see tears threatening to overflow. His heart melted, and beckoned his little brother over.
"What's wrong, Ronnie?"
"I-I-I don't w-want you t-t-to g-go to Hogwarts," he whispered.
Percy laughed, a funny sound for the almost-eleven year old.
"Don't worry, Ronnie, I won't forget about you. I'll write you a letter every day, okay?"
His little brother looked up at him, his clear blue eyes now tearless and shiny.
"Really, Perce? Promise?"
"Yes, Ronnie. I promise," replied Percy.
"In fact," he continued, "I'll make an oath! I solemnly swear, before Ronnie and Merlin, to write a letter a day to Ronald Bilius Weasley!"
The bright smile that lit up the little boy's face would be forever ingrained in Percival Weasley's memory.
"Ronnie, why don't you ..." Percy's voice trailed off as he saw his little brother was already fast asleep, curled up next to him.
A serene smile graced his features, and Percy couldn't find it in him to wake him up.
Good night, Ronald.
