Been a while since I've written an SVU fic. Let's hope I still got it. You can probably easily guess who the two characters are in this fic (not including the stranger). Title comes from the song Mr. Brightside by The Killers, the only difference is I had to spell out Mr. because I don't think the title thing allows periods.
Disclaimer: Don't own the characters or anything from Law and Order: SVU.
He stared across the bullpen at her, as she was finishing up some paperwork. Both of their partners had left already, leaving them alone – together. They were tired and just wanted to go home. Actually, he was considering asking her for a drink at the bar later.
Even though this man was older than she was, he always had a bit of a crush on her. They had worked on a few cases together, each one making him more and more enthralled with her. Her inner strength was amazing considering what horrors she saw every day. She deserved someone who could put up with her line of work . . . someone who could comfort her after a rough case.
Someone like him.
Just as he was about to go ask her out, a man walked in. This man was unfamiliar; he had never seen him before. The stranger snuck up behind the only female occupant in the room and wrapped his arms around her. Luckily, she knew who it was. Not so lucky for him.
The man watched his plans die from behind his dark glasses. Introductions were made and all was set straight. Turns out they had been dating for a while and that they had a dinner date scheduled for tonight. What luck he should show up right here, right now.
The detective got so disgusted that he politely made an excuse to leave, saying that he had finished his work and wanted to get some sleep. She smiled in understanding, wishing him a good night. He returned the sentiment. Turning to his nemesis, his shook his hand, making a silent threat in his head that if he did anything bad to her, he wouldn't live to see tomorrow.
From the elevator doors, he stole one last glance at her. Unfortunately, they had chosen that moment to kiss and it sickened him even more. It was almost like he was forced to watch as the one he loved was snatched away from him by a man who could give her the world – a man more suited for her than he was.
The elevator door shut and he was left all alone. A fact that he had accepted many years ago, but this time his heart was in a million pieces as he thought about it.
Comments and advice always welcome. No flames even though this probably sucks really bad.
