I wrote this a while ago...on a rainy day, and well I wanted to write a kinda sad story with happy ending....so here I am typing it up a month later cuz im super lazy ;D
KC's POV
The rain of the September day knocked against my windshield. The weather seemed to add to add to grimness of the day. I slowly turned the steering wheel of my car into an unfamiliar church parking lot. I stepped out into the rain, turning up the hood of my flimsy sweatshirt. I looked around the full parking lot, a few stray strangers were settled towards the front, but I was mainly looking for Riley. I gave up shortly after and hustled through the deep puddles and towards the church. I tugged on the thick brass handle that opened the heavy glass door, missing all of the times Riley had held it for me. I changed my pace from a brisk walk to a slightly steadier pace as I scanned the empty pews. It made me wonder why the parking lot had been filled when no one in the church. My eyes stopped at a pew towards the back, the only seat taken in the church. I hurried over to it, knowing that my presence could help the situation. I sat down, grief filling my head.
"I'm really sorry about your grandfather." I started slowly, trying not to pull any tense nerves that were still raised.
"It's okay," Riley responded grimly, "I'm just gonna miss him so much."
"I know how you feel, really I do." I replied, putting my arm around him sympathetically. It was the least I could do. Riley opened his mouth to respond, but the sound of the organ up front began to play. I hadn't realized how full the church had gotten. The service was short and as gloomy as the day. I sat with Riley through it all until the end.
People that I didn't recognize began to flood out of the church, many of them their eyes red with sadness. Through the chockablock crowd, I caught a glimpse of Jackie, just as confused as me. I ran over to her as fast as I could while still avoiding running into people.
"Jackie, have you seen Riley?" I asked when I finally reached her.
"No, but where were you? I found Sam and Zack, but they've already left." She replied.
"Oh, I didn't see walk in, but let's look for Riley." I responded. Jackie looked over her shoulder at her parents who were waving her towards the parking lot.
"Sorry, KC but I have to go. Bye!" She called, running towards her parents. I shook my head and turned back towards the church. To my surprise, almost everyone was gone now. It would be a lot easier to find Riley, and it was. I found him inside vestibule of the church, standing alone.
"Riley?" I whispered, leaning on the door frame.
"He's gone KC, he's really gone." He replied, letting his head dangle. I shifted over to him and put my arm on his back.
"It's okay to feel sad Riley. It isn't easy to lose a family member."
He turned so he was facing me. I placed my other arm around him, pulling myself closer to him, and embraced him.
"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?" I asked slowly.
"There is one thing..." he faded out. He lifted my head gently and planted his lips on mine. We broke apart from each other a few seconds later.
"Now I feel better." He said smiling.
