Zhane lay on his bed, trying to decide whose fault this whole thing was. Hers, he decided firmly. She had been the one to first show an interest in him, she had been the one who asked him out, for that matter, she had been the one who had almost blown him up when he showed up late. He had just saved her life.
He honestly wished he could regret that sometimes. But of course, he couldn't. Even if she hadn't turned out to be Andros' sister. He wouldn't trade the times they had had for anything. He had cared about her, a lot. He might have even loved her. But now he'd never get the chance to find out.
He supposed he understood why she left. As Astronema, Karone had spent her whole life traveling the universe, it was hard for her to settle down, especially on Earth. But he didn't understand why she didn't even talk about it with him, ask him to go with her. He would have.
Or if she needed time to herself, he would have understood that too. But she had told him that they should end it, no discussion, no room for argument. She said that she still cared about him, but she didn't think she could handle a relationship right now.
He told her he was willing to wait. He was willing to wait. He'd understand why Andros wouldn't believe that, but she hadn't known him back on KO-35. She hadn't even answered him on that. Just said that that wouldn't be fair to him. But it was the finality that she said it with that really stung.
The next day she had left, and unceremoniously at that. She had said goodbye to all of them individually, and if she had told anyone where she was going, she had asked them not to tell him. He guessed Andros knew if anyone, and Zhane had certainly pressed him enough about it, but he had refused to say anything.
Now, two weeks later, he finally found out where she was. Terra Venture. Of all places, Earth's first space colony. And she was a Power Ranger! Zhane almost wanted to call them up and ask if they knew that the former princess of evil was defending their ship.
Zhane sighed, no, of course he wouldn't do that. He felt guilty even having the thought. He knew how badly Karone felt about everything she had done as Astronema, he'd never hold that over her head.
But he couldn't help but feel some bitterness towards her. He had never pressured her into anything. He had always done his best to be there for her, to support her. And she hadn't even given him a chance to prove that he could support her in this too.
Zhane sighed. He wanted to hate her. He wanted to be angry at her. But he wasn't. She had never had a normal life. It wasn't right for him to expect her take on a whole new life so quickly. He just hoped that Terra Venture would help her find whatever it was she was looking for.
