Chant of the Old Forest
Wytch wood,
Snarled scrub,
Tangled paths a'floundering.
Gnarled horn,
Tearing thorn,
Blighted woodland wandering.
Tendrils snaring feet of clay,
Paths once clear, fade away.
Sink-hole mud,
Heaving sod,
Slop of black peat suckling.
Scudding mist,
Scourging rain,
Soaking cloak a'shivering.
Accusing stab,
Tattered rag,
Hooded murder circling.
See the trees are drawing near,
They with malice, you in fear,
Roots crawl,
Don't fall,
In the twilight darkening.
Nightfall,
Trees tall,
Weary feet are stumbling,
Swift stream,
Conjure dream,
The Withywindle's tumbling.
Helpless you succumb to night,
Old Man Willow's shut up tight,
Bleached bone,
Whetstone,
Old Forest is a'mumbling.
