During the times before the fourth hokage, there once lived a legendary leaf ninja of the Uchiha clan, whose skill with a sword remains to be unmatched by anyone in the world. And although short-lived, he rose to the rank of an elite jounin and fought to insure peace and prosperity for future generations. He came to be called The Blade God, Kensei Uchiha. But in order to understand the great actions and sacrifices made by this hero, we must go back, far back, to before he proved his mettle. Back when he was known as a "clumsy oaf", Kensei, the letdown of the Uchiha Clan.

When first entered into the ninja acadamy, an aptitude test found him to be slightly smarter than average, but clumsy, slow, and weak, and that his skills in taijutsu and ability with edged weapons would never be on the level of a ninja. They suggested to his family that he train to be an analytical ninja, more of a desk job than field ninja. But when they came to his home that night, young Kensei was too excited to sleep and thought it a good idea to see what kind of message his parents were receiving. So he hid by the door and listened to their private conversation.

"Kensei," the old teacher sighed. "...is a very average boy, in most ways. But he simply shows no talent to be a ninja."

"All Uchiha men are elite ninja," his father said sternly.

"Well I fear your son won't be."

Kensei nervously pulled at the color of his shirt and made a very valiant effort to keep his tears from falling.

"Are you sure?" his mother asked. She too was a jounin, held in high regard to the rest of the village as the master of Konoha's White Fang, a boy who at the young age of fifteen had already gained celebrity as a distinguished ninja and acceptance into ANBU. Kensei used to see him all the time just before they went on, or right after his mother returned from, a mission. He wanted to be just like this boy, Sakumo Hatake.

"Well..." The teacher hesitated to answer. "He could be part of interrogations, but we're not sure about that either. Normally we wouldn't pay a house visit to deliver such news to parents. However since you are of the Uchiha Clan... In the long run, it's your decision whether you will allow your son to go to the academy, where he'll likely fail, or to try a profession that he is more qualified for. The decision is yours."

"Hmmm..."

Afraid of what his father might say, Kensei exploded into the room, armed with tears and whole lot of anger. "No!" he shouted. "I will become a ninja! I'll be just like Sakumo! And you can't take that from me!"

His father paused for a moment, rubbing at his beard, before parting his lips to speak, "No... no one can take that from you. You'll go to the academy and you will become a great ninja... or you will die trying."

Shaking with an emotion he couldn't describe, Kensei nodded.

"Now hurry off to bed. Tomorrow's your first day of school."
