Reviving the legend
Standing in front of the glowing and omnipresent Mother Brain, Rolf couldn't repress his feelings. He felt hatred for that thing that had sent their world to the verge of disaster. He felt rage, because Palmans had left their lives in her hands, becoming completely dependant on her. He felt sadness, as Nei had died at the hands of Neifirst, her evil counterpart, product of wicked experiments approved by Mother Brain. And he felt fear, because he didn't know if he was going to get out alive from that battle.
He also felt like going back in time. While fighting Dark Force, he recalled the nightmares he had about the young girl –who ended up being his ancestor- that battled the demon. He felt he was reviving History.
Now, Mother Brain was a different case. He couldn't relate her to his ancestor, Alis, but to an old legend from long ago, even older than Alis' story itself.
He had trouble to recall when he had first heard it. Was it at the orphanage? Or had it been his own mother who told him about a warrior that had defeated a serpent-haired monster that could turn people into stone only by staring at her? And how many years later another warrior set out to defeat her, once more, and ended up killing Medusa with Alis' help, and how he also helped her to defeat the Evil King Lassic, who had been behind his ancestor's brother's death?
At that moment, it didn't matter. He would find the time to remember once Mother Brain was defeated. If she was…
They were so similar, Mother Brain and Medusa. Rolf had trouble to attack her at the beginning, dazzled by her glowing holographic hair and shinning body.
She had also been succesful in petrifying the people of Algo, as the mythical creature. Since she took over the control over the entire system, people started to live comfortably, without effort… everything was handed over to them by Mother Brain on a silver tray. They only had to take it. Life was so simple, everyone forgot what hard work meant. Everyone trusted in Mother Brain. She could do no wrong, being a computer, and a Mother to all of them.
Staring at the Nei sword, Rolf gathered strength. What had driven Perseus and Odin to fight against Medusa? Was she an evil ruler like Mother Brain? Were they the only ones aware of the danger she really was, like he and his friends knew?
So many questions run through his mind. Did ordinary people care about their actions? Did they always stay in the most comfortable situation?
He sighed. Surely, they did. Common people face normal problems. He had been enthrusted with a difficul mission. His friends, all of them had been strangers who knocked at his door when they learnt about him, weren't normal people, too. Neither Perseus nor Odin were normal.
It was time to attack. Mother Brain had to be stopped. He thought about the legendary heroes for the last time. Did they realize they were making History at that time? Was he making History right then? Only time would tell.
Determined, Rolf grabbed his sword tightly and charged against the computer that had turned the people of Algo into dust and stone…
The End
Notes: Alright, this short drabble has been inspired by a certain phrase in Tanith's fic "Mother Dearest" (if you haven't read it yet, do it now! :D). There, I realized the similarities between Medusa and Mother Brain... But I still don't know why was Perseus introduced in the PS series, even if just mentioned... Well, I hope you've enjoyed this!
