She had always known, since she had first seen Superman, that they were connected. He was so artlessly noble. He wasn't stale, or boyscout-ish, or annoying, but he was intelligent, kind, and so... so... good. It was the only way to describe him. Lois found it unfailingly ironic that she, the woman who didn't need to be saved, fell in love with a hero. Maybe that said something about her. Maybe in her heart of hearts, she wasn't as strong as she thought she was. Maybe she really did crave that romantic movie ending...
She snorted, shaking her head in exasperation.
Pondering the workings of her subconcious had never gotten her anywhere before, and there was no reason why that should change now. It didn't matter why she wanted him anyway. What really mattered was that he had saved her life, as well as her child's and her fiance's. She was grateful... and she was still in love with him. It was okay to want it, as long as she didn't have to have it. That was the key difference between self-respect and self-loathing. Of course, there was always room for artistic license... Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, Lois sat forward and placed her hands on the keys. The raised bumps on the 'J' and 'F' keys felt comfortingly familiar. With a frown of concentration, she deleted her title and retyped it. Then she saved the file and went to find a cup of coffee.
Behind her the cursor blinked on and off at the end of the phrase: "Why I Need Superman."
