A/N: I sort of put this together as a little experimental thing, a view of Claudia Joy and Denise's relationship through the eyes of their husbands. Also, there isn't enough CJ/Denise fanfic around here, so uh, I thought I'd help. Enjoy!
Claudia Joy and Denise are dancing together at the Hump, and their husbands are watching them, mild amusement showing on their faces.
"What do you suppose it is about them?" Michael asks casually over his whiskey. Frank is watching his wife intently, observing the way she wraps her arms around Claudia Joy's waist, like they've been dancing together for years (and they have), the way Claudia Joy's fingers find their way into Denise's hair at the base of her neck. He shrugs.
"I don't know, sir." He answers, taking a swig of his beer. "I've tried to figure it out myself, and I just can't seem to wrap my head around it." He isn't lying. He doesn't understand what goes on between the two women, but he wishes he could.
"Sometimes I think, that if they had met before they were married, they might have just married each other." Michael says, only half-joking. Frank laughs softly and nods in agreement.
"They're soul mates, I think." Frank comments. "I mean, D and I, we're in love. I trust in that, but, all due respect, sir, I know that she and your wife have something going on between them that neither your nor I could even begin to understand." Michael seems to mull it over for a moment before he answers.
"I'm with you on that, a hundred percent." By now, the song is over, and both women have made their way back to their men. They share one last look before splitting up to take seats on either side of their husbands.
"So, what did we miss?" Claudia Joy asks, just barely breathless.
"We were just talking about your secret love affair." Michael jokes, and both women seem confused for more than a moment, before Claudia Joy retorts jovially.
"Well, I guess it's not so secret anymore." And Denise seems to visibly relax into her husband's arms as they share a laugh. For a brief moment, she wonders how they would react if they really knew about their "secret love affair."
When Claudia Joy clandestinely touches her wrist in the parking lot, it's just about all the reassurance that Denise needs. The text she receives later that night chases away the rest of their doubts.
What they don't know won't hurt them.
