38 Weeks
Attack on Titan Universe
It was a general expedition outside of the safety of the walls. They were continuing to cut a path to Eren's basement; in hope that whatever was down there could help solve the mystery of the walls.
Nothing was special about this expedition. Nobody special was going with them. There were no special supplies or goals for it. It was just a simple outing.
But as they were riding their horses a huge group of titans was seen coming their way. Several abnormals were among them, running with their hands splayed and jaws gaping, in an attempt to eat the humans right in front of them on their territory. As the formation was split apart and the groups strategy for efficiently killing the titans was crushed, their troops numbers were declining.
Eren, desperately trying to save people, transformed into a titan and started to fend them off. But to no avail.
He was overwhelmed with sheer numbers. The titans were eating away at his body and he dared not release his hold on it for he would become incredibly weak once leaving it.
Captain Levi, whom Eren had been growing close to over the past few months, was slashing the napes of the titans as fast as possible in an attempt to rescue Eren. But even the legendary Captain Levi was no match for so many titans. Eren's body disappeared in the roiling mass of titans.
Levi, now in a panic, finished off all the titans; but it was no use. Eren's real body had sustained so much damage, that it could not heal itself. Eren was barely still alive when Levi finally manged to reach him.
"EREN!" he yelled when he saw the bloody torso and head which was Eren. Tears came to his gray eyes as he launched himself towards the teenager. "No..."
"Corporal... Levi..." Eren weakly managed to get out past his lips.
"No, Eren. You have to live. You have to see the ocean." Levi was in hysterics.
"Can't... my time... is up... Protect... Mikasa... for me..."
Levi hunched over Eren. "Don't go. Don't you leave me too." Levi reached for Eren, he gently touched his face.
Eren's lips twitched upwards a bit. "I... love... you..." And with those final words Eren's eyes dulled as he breathed his final breath.
Levi's breath hitched and he screamed out a sound of despair. A sound that nobody ever wishes to witness, the sound of a heart breaking and a life dimming.
Mikasa ran up to the Corporal and saw Eren's body. Her eyes widened and she fell to her knees next to Eren. She slowly reached up to Eren's face and closed his eyes.
"Eren..." she whispered.
But the Corporal could not even do that, he was frozen in his bubble of agony. The walls around his heart broken down crack by crack only to have the one weaseling his way in die.
As Eren's body was loaded onto a wagon and the Corps began to trek back to the safety of the Wall's after a failed mission, Captain Levi mumbled a broken promise.
"I will find you again. We will meet again Eren, I promise you that."
Modern Day Universe
Eren's POV
Eren wakes up with the sunlight streaming onto his face. He blinks and stretches luxuriously as he sits up.
'That was an odd dream.' Eren thought to himself thinking back to the giant monsters and the short man with black hair and sliver eyes. He remembered the way those eyes had tears in them and frowned, recalling how he was the cause of the mans tears.
'A man like that is meant to be strong, not cry over someone like me.' Eren thought to himself. But, it was only a dream so he drug himself out of the comfort of his bed and walked to the bathroom. He glanced in the mirror and shook his head to get a few of the fluffy strands to lie flatter, which actually works for his hair. He yawned at the mirror and sighed, shaking the last of the dream away in preparation for the day. Eren quickly showered and grabbed a granola bar on his way out of his small apartment.
He hears the jingle of keys from across the hallway and glanced back to see his eccentric neighbor Hanji. Eren sighed, he didn't have time to chat this morning or he would be late again. But unfortunately for him it was to late and Hanji saw him.
"Hi Eren!" Hanji smiled cheerfully, always in a seemingly good mood.
Eren internally grimaces but puts on a smile for the cheerful woman. "Hey Hanji. I have to get to work, so I can't talk, but I hope you are doing well."
Hanji puts on a pout. "Well, if you can't talk will you walk with me? I am going to this little cafe that is supposed to have amazing tea. You have to pass right by it as you walk to work anyway."
Eren sighs. "Sure Hanji. Now let's go."
Hanji smiles and links their arms. "Alright! Let's go on an adventure!"
Eren can't help but smile at the childish adult. Some people just never fully mature.
Hanji is chatting up a storm as they walk and Eren is perfectly content to just listen to the flow of words that she creates. He smiles softly as she goes on about some experiments that she is conducting with the class that she is teaching at the university in town later today. Something about a star fishes regenerative powers being applied to a human... Interesting in theory but to Eren it just goes in one ear and out the other.
They arrive at the front of the cafe, it's a quaint little tea shop that has a curvy script sign claiming its name to be Little Titans Cafe, and when Eren checks his watch he sees that he has enough time to get a quick cup of tea before work.
Eren softly smiles. "Come on Hanji, let's go get some of that tea you were talking about."
"YEAH!" Hanji excitedly bounces into the cafe to get into the small line. Eren stands next to her.
Hanji looks up at Eren. "Eren, this is my treat, I did drag you here after all."
Eren smiles. "You don't have to do that Hanji."
The woman smiles. "I insist."
Eren shrugs and looks back at the list of teas to try. There are so many different choices...
"The Earl Grey here is supposed to be spectacular." Hanji told Eren.
Eren nodded. "Can I just get a cup of that then?"
Hanji happily bobbed her head, "Of course! That's what I am going to get to."
After that it was their turn to order and when Eren heard a deep voice say, "Welcome to Little Titans Cafe, what can I get for you?" he glanced up to be shocked meeting the same eyes from the dream the night before.
Hanji placed their order and the man with the silver eyes and dark hair walked to a separate counter to make the cups of tea.
"Huh..." Eren muttered under his breath.
"Did you say something?" Hanji asked.
"Huh? Oh, no."
Hanji looked back to the black haired man and whistled. "Would you look at those muscles he's got. Wonder what he does to get those."
"HANJI!"
Hanji laughed. "Come on Eren, you didn't notice them?"
Eren felt a light heat dance across his cheeks. "Well... Maybe a little. But it's weird, I had this horrific dream last night with a guy in that looked and sounded exactly like this man."
"Huh. Well, Eren, maybe you are just a teeny tiny bit physic!"
Eren rolled his eyes at the woman. "Yeah, right."
"Hey! It could happen you know! Just have someone who's brain is a little more observant, that's all it would take. In fact..." And Eren lost her to a long, rambling, one-sided conversation about some research she had done and her own formulated hypothesis' and opinions.
At that time their tea was called though, saving him.
Eren thanked the man and he jerked his head up and stared at him.
"Umm... Is there something wrong?" Eren asked.
"Tch. No. Have a good day, sir." The man said then went to serve the next customer.
'OK, that was weird.' Eren thought. 'It was almost like he recognized me... Oh well.' He shrugged it off and went to say goodbye to Hanji before walking the rest of the way to his job at his photography studio down the street.
Levi's POV
'That boy... He looked just like the boy that has been plaguing my dreams for weeks. The one who dies every single time and I have to watch him, trying to save him but knowing I won't be able to.' Levi thought, shaking his head trying to concentrate more on the customer placing an order. 'It doesn't matter. He's just some random stranger who just happens to look and sound exactly like the boy my subconscious made.'
That's what Levi kept telling himself all day when his mind would drift back to the boy who may or may not be the person he had fallen in love with.
