Why would I write something like this at like two in the morning?
For the love of Lesbians duh.
Also, for the English Release of Another Episode coming soon!
Also look I'm not dead what?
"Stay, stay, right where you are; there's a death game outside of your door!"
Fukawa's cry could barely be heard through the chaos. Or did she even say it out loud?
Monaka was stalking them, out of her wheelchair, preparing to strike them down. Trapped in Towa city, the two had nowhere to run anymore. Monaka could find wherever they hid, easily even. This was their last chance.
Fukawa could head Monaka's light, eerie footsteps just outside their hiding place. She knew that she would burst in any moment and take her hope away. No, Makoto Naegi was not with her. Komaru Naegi, however, was. Komaru was nothing special, even she knew that. But she could still do normal things. Like give herself up in place of Fukawa.
Yes, that was her only plan. To give herself up. And allow Fukawa to live. She would do anything for her, because she loved her. Even if her feelings would have no chance of reciprocation, she still felt them. Besides, Fukawa still had things to live for. Her 'Byakuya-sama', for one, who she could have a happy life with, and the fact she didn't have a band on her wrist that sentenced her to death.
In Komaru's eyes, it was either die later, or die now and save a life.
"Oh, big sister Komaru? Where are you! Monaka doesn't like hide and seek!" She pouted as she skulked around the abandoned building, her words echoing into Komaru's ears. Yes! This was her chance.
Fukawa, however, was thinking much different thoughts. For example, how could she save Komaru? How could she get her back to Makoto? She had no preparations to sacrifice herself, sure, but she still needed Komaru alive.
Why? She didn't really know herself. Regardless, when she heard the footsteps stop abruptly, she was instantly drawn back into reality. Her heart started to pound as she gripped both her partner's hand and the shock-gun.
"… Fukawa, I love you." She said in a hushed whisper before letting go of her hand, shaking the others grip off her. Even in the dimness of the closet they were stowed away in, Fukawa could see the tears in her eyes. "I wish… I had the chance to tell you… Earlier." She sniffled as she turned around, facing the entrance of the closet.
Fukawa couldn't see it, but there was a smile on Komaru's face. "Komaru… What a-are y-you pl-planning?!" She whisper-screamed, but Komaru wasn't listening; her mind was far past made up. She had to do this, had to protect the one she loved.
She turned around suddenly, giving a quick peck to her cheek. The writer's face flushed red, and if it wasn't for what was currently going on, she would have smiled. Then, she once again faced the door, bracing herself for what she'd have to do.
She gipped the nob of the door gently. "… I-I love you… Pl-Please tell my brother I'm sorry… Too. And… And that I love him too…" She mumbled before turning it and stepping outside.
Monaka's eyes instantly darted to her, a confused look in her eye. Normally, she'd have to search a lot more to find her prey. "I-I give myself up… Just take me away already!" Monaka knew Fukawa was in there with her, of course. How wouldn't she? But, she figured giving Fukawa the despair of losing a loved one, and living with it, would be much more fitting.
"Yay! By killing you, I'm sure I'll be able to become the second! Monaka's so happy she could burst!" She smiled brightly as she grabbed her hand, her grasp as strong as steel. Komaru winced, but said nothing of it. The tears didn't stop flowing as she was lead off, but nor did her smile falter.
She did the right thing, right…?
A few moments later, a confused and dazed Fukawa emerged from the closet. She had overheard what was said… But why wasn't Komaru here? Why wasn't she smiling at her, proclaiming 'I knew I could beat this little kid!'? Why wasn't she holding her close…?
That's right. She was dead. Or, at least going to die.
And Fukawa knew that.
She fell to her knees, not crying, or doing anything really. She was too numb from the pain of losing her to notice the Future Foundation members filling the room.
She didn't care anymore.
Two years later, Fukawa stood at the building with a small, sad smile on her face. Komaru's sacrifice was what got the adults to retaliate, giving them the advantage in the war, for the moment, anyways.
Fukawa didn't care much for that, though. She cared that she was still alive, still standing and breathing and writing, because of her. She'd be in Komaru's place if she hadn't done what she had- even a mere child would know that.
Then… Why was she still mad at her?
"Hey, you remember this, Komaru?" She asked, looking to the sky. "I remember you suggested hiding here… I remember y-y-you wanted t-to snuggle here… N-Nice and safe…" Only now, after two years, she finally was able to cry. "I-I do… Hey, wh-why don't you come back…? We… We still can, you know…"
She turned around, expecting to see that happy bundle of Naegi behind her, smiling and waving. Of course, there wasn't. But when she turned back…
"Touko-chan?" That voice. Fukawa knew that voice all-too-well. "It's me, Komaru!" She was there. Fukawa could see it in the sparkle in her eyes. That was her love, Komaru Naegi. Back from the dead.
She instantly wrapped her arms around her, crying hysterically. Komaru's only response was a small giggle and the return of the hug. Her grip was tight, as if she was terrified of losing her again.
"How… How did y-y-you?" The author stuttered, her voice cracking slightly. "I made a deal with Monaka. I had to give up something special… And she'd let me go! Of course, it took two years for her to offer. I never let her break me! And she had to break me before offing me!" She chuckled, rubbing the others back kindly and lovingly.
"Wh-Wh-What did you g-give up?" Finally regaining her composure, she slowly let go, looking up at her with watery eyes. "I gave up a pair of scissors you had given me once… You told me it was a gift. Of course, the only thing we could buy was ammo… So that's all you had. It meant a lot to me, you know." She blushed slightly, looking away.
Then, Fukawa remembered what she had told her before giving herself up. "… D-Did you mean what you said… A-About the love?"
Another blush was her answer. "Yeah…" She then turned back around, hugging her again. "I love you…"
Fukawa smiled genuinely for the first time in years as she hugged her back. "… I do too…" She responded after a second.
"… I heard what you said about snuggling… Could we? It was a long walk." She joked, offering her hand to Fukawa. She took it happily, without even a hint of hesitance. They walked inside the building, and towards one of the bedrooms.
They were both happy and alive, finally together...
Not.
Togami huffed slightly as he stared at the image of the two girls. "… How long do we plan on keeping her in there?" He sighed, turning to Makoto.
He shrugged. "A while. She deserves this… And once she comes out, happy and fulfilled, maybe she'll be able to move on." He gave a cheeky little smile. "Besides, I miss her too… It's nice to see Ko happy too. We didn't make this up, you know."
Togami raised a brow at his statement. "Didn't make what up?"
"Her responses. There was a notebook with her in a satchel. It was filled with scenarios of her confessing to Fukawa. We compiled them together, and programmed them all in." Makoto sighed. "I wish she could have told her in person, though. God, Komaru was too good of a kid…"
Then, Aoi simply patted him on the back. "I miss my bro too. But it's okay. They died for a great cause… I'm sure they're happy." They both shared a smile.
"… Night, you two." He turned to the simulation, where the two were happily asleep, their arms and legs intertwined.
