a/n; Kitty's at it again. Oh no!
So this one is focused more on Quasi and Phoebus' friendship, which is actually pretty odd and almost forced, but it's genuine. And this is a bit of a drabble. Sorry. Also, I love Quasi, and I kinda bagged on him for the sake of this fic. Sorry, sorry. D:
I do not own the Hunchback of Notre Dame, but if I did, I wouldn't have changed anything in the first movie, and completely rejected the idea for a second one. Yay.
Phoebus was her knight in shining armor. Literally.
Technically he was a captain, or rather, a soldier, but his armor definitely did shine. He was more or less one of the most noticeable people in France, right behind Quasimodo and Frollo. The Captain seemed to be the only truly blonde adult male in France, or at least, the only truly blonde male with decent facial hair. His armor was custom made just for Phoebus and Phoebus alone, a gold coat melded onto a special tough-yet-light metal, and the spots where his chain mail would have shown were covered in a navy blue cloth, matching his always-present cape. Even when he wasn't in armor, he was probably wearing his cloak, which was a smaller, differently designed version of his cape. He was an excellent fighter, one of the best swordsmen in France, and not to mention he was ever so dashingly handsome, with a heart of gold and a killer smile to match.
It was no wonder Esmeralda chose Phoebus over him.
What was he but a lowly, deformed bell ringer? He was just a hunchback, not worthy of anyone's attention or time or love. As his master would say, he's simply a monster, who was doomed to staying hidden all of his life. And now, Esmeralda had given him the painful task of caring for the man who had stolen the woman who was possibly his only chance at true love. Of course, Phoebus had never been cruel to him at all, he simply had to follow orders from Frollo, and Quasimodo definitely related to him there, and he had even asked to stop the disaster at the Feast of Fools himself, but Quasi couldn't help but hold a grudge. But if Esmeralda wanted him to…he would.
Phoebus was unconscious most of the time he was in the bell tower. After Esmeralda left, and the stinging of the wine on his wound had died down, the only thing Phoebus recalled happening to him was getting picked up and thrown under a table (he distinctly remembered hitting his head against one of the legs). Then, there was the deep rumble of Frollo's voice, which Phoebus' sluggish and only partially-conscious mind picked up, and as he came to, he moaned, only to receive an abrupt kick in the face. He fell completely unconscious after that. He woke up to Frollo saying, "I know where her hideout is, and tomorrow, at dawn, I attack with a thousand men." And that was his cue to rescue Esmeralda and leave. Quasimodo decided that it was time to (somewhat grudgingly) befriend Phoebus.
After the battle, when Frollo was killed and Esmeralda was still alive, Quasimodo came to accept the fact that Phoebus and Esmeralda were meant to be, and all was well between the three of them.
