Is there someone?

I walked through the streets of Halloween Town. It was night and I had no destination where to go. It always felt so strange being the pumpkin princess, because my dad was a skeleton. I didn't feel like I belong in Halloween Town, but it was my home and my parents loved me. Was it so wrong to hope that in the mortal world there would be someone who misses me or who is there for me?

I entered unconscious the cemetery and made my way up Spiral Hill doing the thing my mom always does with Forget-Me-Nots.

'There has to be someone in the human world who misses me, right?', I thought. Was it really that nobody loved me? I mean, sure my parents love me, but is this enough? Is it enough to be the next Master of Fright, the next ruler of Halloween Town? It felt so wrong to live as a human in a world of monsters, ghouls and corpses. The Forget-Me-Not had no petals left and I sighed. It didn't help.

"Is there someone who understands my heart and who will travel with me until the end? Is there someone who believes in me? Is there someone? Who takes away the shadow from my soul and who brings me home safely? Is there someone who really needs me?", I yelled through the night and started crying. I didn't realize that my parents had entered the cemetery too and stood behind me.

"Jack, you should talk to her.", my mom said. I still sat there crying and I shivered.

"Luna dear, you know that you're not alone.", my dad sat down beside me. I laid my head on his chest. My dad hugged me and said nothing. Then I raised my head to look at him.

"I just don't know if I really belong here, dad. I mean, I'm a mortal, I'm the kind of person you go scare on Halloween. Do I…do I really belong here?", I asked with tears in my eyes.

"Of course, you belong here, dear. There is someone who understands your heart and who will travel with you until the end. Even when you don't believe in yourself there is someone. I will be always there for you.", my dad explained and stroked my back. I smiled and whispered a thank you. Then we stood up and walked back home.

It felt so nice to have loving parents.
