Hi! This is just a small one-shot. If you guys want to see more, just say so in your review. :3
Why?
The was the one word question that rang in his head. Every time he had to rise from the safety of the shadows to fight this Sora. Why did they have to die? Why did they have to battle? Why couldn't their so called leader battle Sora if he was so puny?
Whimpering in a dark corner was a Heartless. One of the low level Heartless known as a Shadow. His yellow eyes closed and open rapidly as he gave a very soft whimper. He didn't want to be here. He didn't want to fight this murderer. It only took a day before this Sora had killed over fifty heartless, many being this Shadow's friend. Since then, the Shadow has feared that he will be next. He will be next to fell the pain that Keyblade could cause.
Many thought Heartless couldn't feel anything and were just there to take hearts for their own. That was a lie. This one Shadow had once tried explaining this to a human, but they simply screamed and try attacking it. The truth was, their leader made them. The Shadow would do anything to get away from this so called war. He'd do anything to get his friends back.
But, life didn't work like that. Life was cruel and put people in small groups. Heartless, in life, were evil and needed to be killed.
The Shadow's thoughts were soon forgotten as he heard a bolt of lightning near him. Giving a small squeal this was almost silent, he turned to see Sora with the duck and...dog thing. Backing up, the Shadow watched as Sora started racing at him, Keyblade in hand.
Thinking fast, the Shadow quickly sunk into the ground, making Sora curse as he hit the carpet. Running, or crawling, the Shadow headed down the hall, hoping Sora would just go on and leave, figuring one little Shadow wasn't going to do anything. Luckily, for once, the Shadow was correct as Sora just waved him off, a scowl on his face.
It wasn't until the Shadow was saftley outside when he rose. His yellow, glowing, eyes stayed glued to the ground until, finally, he went on his knees. Putting his head in his hands, he gave a rather loud and horrible screech. Banging the ground, the Shadow whined and hissed, hating himself.
"Shh..."
The noise made the Shadow jump, landing all fours on a statue. Staring at him was was beautiful women, her eyes glowing pink. Long, golden, hair seem to float as she reached out to him with a glowing, white, hand.
"It's okay, Mercury." she said in a gentle, yet powerful voice.
Slowly making his way down, the Shadow fiddled with his black and ghost like fingers as he murmured, "Mercury...?"
"You're name. Before you were a Heartless."
He moved closer to her, his eyes twinkling out of curiosity. "Before?"
She nodded, her golden hair slowly getting in her face before quickly floating back up. "Every Heartless was once a human...you, as most Shadows, was a small boy."
The Shadow looked down at himself. He must have been a small boy for this Shadow was usually shorter than the rest. He looked up at the woman again, to see she had bended down, reaching to touch him.
Once her hand touched his head, the Shadow quickly felt warm and light. Even if no one could see it, he smiled as he closed his eyes happily. Before he knew it, she was holding him like a new born baby.
"You are different, Mercury," she said, her eyes glowing a bit brighter, "You are the one Heartless."
The Shadow didn't understand, but he didnt' ask. Right now, for the first time, he was safe and warm.
