A/N: Hi Everybody! This is my first fan fiction so I hope that you enjoy! As you all know at the end of season two the students at Carlton rebelled and occupied the school. This fan fiction starts when they come home from their "Take back Carlton" protest. Daphne's POV. When I am done I may do some of the others.
Disclaimer: I do not own switched at birth.
I stare out of my window, watching the clouds. I spot Toby shooting hoops in the yard but I am in no mood to go play. Some part of me wishes that Bay was here but she probably wouldn't care. The outcome didn't affect her anyways. She was just along for the ride, but right now I need some one to talk to. I mentally scroll through the list of friends in my mind. There's Toby but he wouldn't exactly understand. Travis is definitely out. I want some one to make me feel better, not worse. Then there's Emmett but I don't want to burden him. His mother's job is more important then my happiness. Most of my other friends walked out on me when I needed them. That just leaves Natalie. I pull out my cell phone, flicking my finger through my contacts.
I have something on my phone where I can call some one and somebody will sigh out what they are saying for me, but when I am talking to someone else who is deaf, we prefer to go on video chat. I click on her picture and send a chat request .I watch the little loading icon in the center of the screen spin around endlessly as I place the phone in its holder. Natalie's picture fills the screen and she waves. I wave back. We bounce around a few questions for a while but soon it's clear neither one of us is in much of a talking mood. I glance around the room and by the time I look back she is just finishing up a sign. I sign to her to repeat that so she does. She signed Behind You.
I quickly sign that I have to go and she nods curtly. Her picture disappears and the screen plunges in to darkness.
I spin in my desk chair to see a defeated face surrounded by dark curls. Bay. She doesn't even bother to sign, just extends her hand and drags me down stairs with her. I follow her out of my house and in to her's where all of our family waits for me. Toby sits on the counter, looking out of place with the fancy surroundings. Bay climbs up and lies on her stomach on the kitchen island. John and Kathryn sit on one side of the table, Regina on the other.
What's going on? I sign, trying pointlessly to keep my hands from shaking. Not that I needed to sign anyway. They already anticipated what I was going to say. Bay steps in front of them, signing to me that she will interpret. It makes sense. Going to a deaf school has made her better at signing then any other member of my family is. I shift my focus from her forced smile to her soft, olive hands. I nod, showing them that I am ready for them to start. So she does. It's not hard to figure out who is saying what, since my whole family is so different. John and Kathryn start.
" Honey, you know we love you but we have been doing a lot of thinking lately and we all agree that you would be a lot better off if you took a break from all of this Carlton drama" That is undoubtedly Kathryn, always smothering everything in sweetness.
What do you mean? I sign.
John controls Bay's hands now.
We just don't think that it is very safe for you to be messing with the school board. We think that for now while they are all working it out you would be safer if you attended Buckner for a little while.
What? I sign they need me.
Bay doesn't sign the next thing said, but luckily for me they forget that I can read lips. They are John's again and he says
"Exactly."
I look at Regina, the only sane person in the room.
What about you mom?
She responds quickly.
I agree.
I cross my fingers behind my back, hoping that her hands will not form the dreaded words. But they do. And I see them.
Cased Closed.
