Hey, so I know I said I'd post this tomorrow but I got back earlier then I thought and I'm don't know if I'll have time tomorrow so here it is! The Giant War two-shot. Spoilers for The Blood of Olympus, and I mean spoilers, you can't say I didn't warn you. Oh, and I also mentioned some other books and such, I won't go into great detail but I got the idea from reading the Kane Chronicles, so a little spoilers for The Serpents Shadow as well. Anyway, enjoy!
Ugh, I officially hate saving the world. I've saved it so many it's not even funny. I mean seriously? I'm barely eighty years old!
That may sound old to you but in reality I'm just a mere child compared to some of my "brethren", like, I'm not even considered a toddler yet!
Anyway, let me tell you about the times I helped save the world, just a brief description so I can tell you about the latest time, and the times that really got to me.
First time I wrote about it, my trip to the land beyond the gods with Raymond and Jessica to stop the giant from rising, but all we managed to do was delay it. The second time was the Titan war, I helped keep the Titan's away from the empire state building for as long as possible but in the end Luke Castellan made the ultimate sacrifice to stop Kronos.
Before I tell you about the other time I have to clarify, my "mother" the Titan/God Hecate is the god of magic. Therefore I am good with magic and was sometimes mistaken for other beings (cough Egyptian cough).
So yeah, being thrown into that war to battle the giant evil serpent and keep him from swallowing the sun, not fun at all. Then I learned the reason there aren't a lot of Hecate's children at camp, they're usually found by another place first, Hogwarts, they train wizards in the art of magic. A currently a wizard whose name I can't speak is trying to destroy them, so I'm avoiding that place cause I don't want to expose demigods.
And fight to the death, okay.
But not just that, Gaea's stirring and I've been focusing all my energy on staying alive this past year. I've been labelled a traitor by the monsters for fighting against them in the Titan War and Gaea's not taking chances with me. She's sent all kinds of nasty monsters against me this year, trying to kill me. Add that to the fact that she's pried the doors open means the monsters just won't stay dead. At least until they were finally closed.
I get the feeling she doesn't like me.
Anyway, I still have my ways at getting information so I know she planned on rising August first, the day of hope. I also learned that the Roman's and Greek's have learned of each other existence and are about to go to war on the same day. As if I don't need any more proof that the Romans are vicious and evil.
So yeah, I don't need more enemies.
But this was one fight I could not ignore, I had to fight for the Greeks. They were family, even if they didn't know I existed. I fought with some of them last year, and I'd fight with them again.
Unfortunately nothing is as easy as slashing your enemies to dust.
The Roman's had summoned some "allies" to their defence. Risky and completely stupid, as soon as Camp Half-Blood was destroyed the monsters would turn on them and they'd be toast. They stood no chance alone, neither did the Greeks.
I knew the only reason the monsters were tolerating the Roman's and not attacking now was the shield around camp keeping the monsters at bay. Trust me, it annoyed me as well. I couldn't go in and warn them of the attack or go in to offer help, I was stuck.
Besides, I couldn't walk through the monsters anyways, there were too many and they would tear me to shreds. So I had to wait.
I thought that almost eighty years of life would teach me patience, but there are some things you can never learn, like how to battle ADHD and boredom.
Although Gaea didn't give me too much time to be bored. I was constantly on alert, sleeping with one eye open or not sleeping at all. Over the past year I've trained myself to go a week without sleep, then sleeping for two hour intervals the whole next week and repeat. After the Titan War last summer I'd gotten better at making traps and learned to be more creative with my weapons.
I had my current weapons, but they always faded whenever I got injured and couldn't keep up the concentration (thanks mom), so I got myself a nice new dagger, the pepper spray from the Titan war, a baseball bat wrapped up in barbed wire and some whipped cream. Both for eating and fighting, it makes cleaning up fun.
Anyways, I always scouted the Roman's temporary camp from a distance, using some binoculars I borrowed from some guy. I watched four people sneaking around and disabling the onagers the Romans were planning on using. At least that's what I thought they were doing. Anyway, one of them was a child of Hecate because there was a light layer of mist around them.
I watched them fight against the Roman's and I brought my binoculars down and was about to jump in when I heard the worst taxicab whistle ever. I screamed, slapping my hands over my ears. As if that wasn't bad enough, only minutes later I heard the same whistle, only louder.
I realised it wasn't a taxicab whistle, it was ultrasonic, probably to hold those dog creatures at bay. It worked on lycanthropes to.
I staggered to my feet and ran towards the camp, but I came up short and gaped at the scene in front of me. A girl was flying on a Pegasus, followed by a huge statue. Not just any statue, the Athena Parthenos.
That's been missing for millennia!
Wow, she must be powerful if she can find a statue that's been missing for centuries.
"GREEK DEMIGODS!" She boomed and I frowned. Greek? Did that mean she was Roman? A Roman found the ancient Greek statue and returned it? "Behold your most sacred statue, the Athena Parthenos, wrongly taken by the Romans, I return it now as a gesture of peace!"
My jaw dropped as the Pegasus set the statue down on the hilltop. Roman's wanting peace?
"What on Gaea?" I muttered, my head throbbing from this new information. I watched as one of the boys sabotaging the weapons pushed forwards, yelling at the campers. I couldn't hear him very well, even with my great hearing (my ears still hurt from that whistle), so I ran closer.
By the time I got close the hillside rumbled and I staggered, almost losing my balance. Malice filled the air and I groaned. "Oh gods no." I muttered.
YOU WILL DIE.
Gaea, I recognised that voice, it haunted me every time I closed my eyes. Every awful memory I dreamt of.
A FUTILE GESTURE. BUT IF IT MAKES YOU HAPPY YOU CAN DIE TOGETHER.
I snorted, like Gaea cared about our happiness. I watched as the demigods banned together, Roman and Greek mingling together and the monsters surrounding them.
"Time to go wolf mode." I mumbled.
I ran towards the sea of enemies, changing shape and crashing into my enemies, ready to help the demigods make their final stand.
