A soft "meow" from somewhere near his feet caught Larry's attention away from his search for Ahkmenrah.
The kitten at his feet looked up at the night guard with large brown eyes - reminding Larry of the pharaoh he was looking for.
Instead, the man scooped up the cat, scratching the feline's head slightly, as he took off for the Egyptian display, hoping to find the other man there.
The kitten was perfectly content in the night guard's arms, snuggling into the warmth, and pushing his head closer to the hand stroking him.
When they entered the room, Larry noticed The Tablet on the ground, looking as though it had fallen.
"What on Earth…?" the night guard muttered, unconsciously moving his hand to stroke the kitten's back. "Ahk, you in here?" he called out to the empty room.
The kitten meowed once more.
Larry looked down at the feline, tilting his head slightly in confusion.
"Ahk?"
The kitten nodded.
"Well that explains some things." the night guard bit his lower lip. "Is this only temporary?"
The feline - Ahkmenrah - meowed, and nodded once again.
"Well, that's a good thing. Do you want me to put you down?"
Ahk made a sound of protest, and Larry chuckled.
"Okay, I'm not gonna put you down. But I do need to check on everyone." He saw that the kitten had settled into his arms once more and rolled his eyes, but stroked the cat's head gently. "You're an adorable kitten, by the way."
Ahkmenrah smiled at this, his brown eyes looking up at the night guard.
What pulled them from their staring contest was that they had entered the Hall of Miniatures, and Jedediah had just delightedly yelled: "is that a kitten? He's so cute!"
Ahkmenrah was loving the attention.
He might have to transform himself into a feline again in the near future - as long has he could work out how he did it in the first place!
