Chapter One: The Snow Globe
America woke England up by crying again. The green eyed man groaned, rolled over, and climbed from his bed. It was storming outside, and Baby America hated the thunder. England reached into the crib and picked America up, who was crying his head off. England lit a candle and placed it on the night table, and shifted America in his arms. He reached over, and grabbed the thing America loved the most. A tiny snow globe of Saint Paul's cathedral. England began to hum and America whimpered. England hoped that his humming would drown out the sound of the storm but America continued to cry. England sighed, he was gonna have to sing.
"Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul's, the little old bird woman comes." he started to sing, and America started to calm down. He smiled and started singing again. America snuggled against England's chest, and England continued to sing:
"In her own special way to the people she calls,
"Come, buy my bags full of crumbs." Thats when from the other room France heard England singing. America must've woken him up again. France grabbed his robe and put it on, and the song continued.
"Come feed the little birds, show them you care,
And you'll be glad if you do
Their young ones are hungry, their nests are so bare;
All it takes is tuppence from you."
Canada became fussy and England picked him up too. He sat down in a wooden rocking chair and held both of them, rocking back and forth. He continued to sing his lullaby.
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag.
"Feed the birds," that's what she cries,
While overhead, her birds fill the skies."
Canada fussed while America went and closed his eyes. France stood in the doorway, smiling. England didn't notice, of course. He never did when he had America and Canada in his arms.
"All around the cathedral, the saints and apostles
Look down as she sells her wares;
Although you can't see it, you know they are smiling,"
"Each time someone shows that he cares..."
"Though her words are simple and few,
Listen, listen, she's calling to you..."
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag."
England hummed and Canada stopped fussing. France smiled as England continued.
"Though her words are simple and few,
Listen, listen, she's calling to you -
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag." England finished, smiling as Canada's eyelids drooped, and England continued to rock Matthew until he fell asleep. Then he put the babies back in their cribs, covering them up. England had noticed the rain had stopped. He smiled softly. Then turned to face France.
"How long were you standing there?"
England questioned, raising a bushy eyebrow. Francis chuckled and said to Arthur
"About ten minutes...Angelterre..."
"What?"
Arthur asked, crossing the floor to his roommate.
"You're so good at handling the children, Mon Cher."
England smiled at France's remark. But then his face turned serious.
"Mention at his to anyone, I'm killing you."
"Agreed."
