A Way Out
Disclaimer: The Harry Potter world belongs to J.K. Rowling. I am not earning any money with this story.
It was a night of celebration. The Dark Lord had been defeated and the wizarding world was finally free from his reign of terror. The Great Hall of Hogwarts was filled with happy students and members of the Order dancing and laughing while enjoying the company of friends.
It had all ended the day before when Voldemort had attacked suddenly during breakfast. Thanks to Severus' double role as deatheater turned spy Dumbledore had been prepared and Order members were already stationed inside the castle when the attack began. After three ghastly hours Potter had finally gotten close enough to deliver the killing curse and end it all. The remaining deatheaters had been rounded up and sentenced to life in Azkaban. Though many survived to see the end many were lost as well. Somehow though, the Golden Trio escaped with few injuries.
Now as the three enter my eyes turn to her. She is beautiful dressed in deep red dress robes that hug her figure to the hips, before fanning out to the floor. I'm not sure when I first noticed that she was no longer the silly little know-it-all but in fact a lovely young woman. It must have been when she was inducted into the Order at the beginning of the year. The smile she gave could have rivaled the sun and her eyes sparked with intelligence. That day when her eyes met mine something in my chest fluttered though I knew it couldn't be my heart. That part of me had frozen long ago. However, the more I got to know her during the year working on various potions the more I realized that my heart was indeed starting to thaw and she was the one to own it.
The night is drawing to an end and as the last song is begun I realize I have a way out at last. There is no reason for me to worry about showing favoritism anymore I can do what I please. As I walk over her friends all draw back and give me a strange look but I do not care there is only her. "Ms. Granger would you do me the honor of sharing the last dance with me?" She looks into my eyes for a second before nodding her head in acceptance and allowing me to lead her onto the floor.
As we dance no words are needed we just look into each others eyes and soon we are the only two there. Though everyone is staring and whispering we take no notice. The moment is perfect and as I lean down and press my lips lightly to hers I realize it is true; she has stolen my heart and given me a way out of my darkness at last.
